Monday wasn't very special. I did tell Steven not to say anything to Eric about what we did the night after the concert, because he and Donna haven't done it yet. Of course he laughed because I had lost it before Eric had.
Monday was just Kitty running around like a chicken with its head cut off, preparing for my party today. We were all in the basement. "How much time do you think we have for us to make a run for it?" I asked them.
Eric shook his head. "No time, when I had my party, I tried to run, but Red blocked the basement door." He told me. "Crap." I said. Just then Kitty came down stairs. "Alright you crazy kids, everybody up stairs!" She exclaimed. I groaned and we all walked up the stairs.
There was people from the neighborhood I didn't really talk to, or know, and of course Bob and Midge were there. We were in the living room, the party had just began. I was standing between Steven and Eric. I leaned towards Steven and whispered. "Do you think anyone would notice if we just walked out the door and didn't come back till the party was over?" I asked him.
He shook his head. "Kitty is running around everywhere and Red has hawk eyes man." He told me. I sat down on the couch and groaned. Eventually my mom brought out the cake and I blew out the candles. Then it was gifts.
I was sitting in the floor by the couch with Steven and the rest were either standing by or sitting on the couch. I had a box in my hand. "That's from me." Eric said. I looked at him. "I can tell." Eric couldn't really wrap anything.
I unwrapped it and it was the bell bottoms I wanted. I looked at Eric and then back to the pants. "How'd you know I wanted these?" I asked him. He shrugged. "You wouldn't shut up about them, so I had Donna help me." He said.
I smiled. "Thanks Big Brother." He nodded and Jackie shoved a box at me. "This is from Me and Michael." She said. I opened it and I looked at her. It was makeup. Wasn't really my thing, but at least she tried. "Thank you, I really love it." I told them with a smile. They said your welcome and I opened the next one.
Then it was Laurie. "Here." She said handing me a bag. I opened it and it was a pack of cigarettes and a pregnancy test. "How thoughtful. You must have gotten your groceries and my gift mixed up." I told her as I handed her the stuff back. She glared at me. "OH, BURN." Kelso yelled.
Then it was Donna. She handed me a box and I opened it. "No way man!" I said. It was a new Black Sabbath shirt. "Thank you Donna." I said. She nodded. "Here Janie." Fez said as he handed me a small box.
I opened it and it was a necklace, similar to the one that Steven always wears. "Thank you Fez." I said as I smiled at him. He nodded. "I figured you'd want to match Hyde." He said. "Why would she want to match Steven?" Red asked.
"Because, we're best friends." I said, not wanting Red to find out about our relationship, not yet anyway. "Last up is me." Steven said as he handed me a white box similar to the one that my Black Sabbath shirt came in.
I smiled at him and opened it. It was a Led Zeppelin shirt. A familiar Led Zeppelin shirt. "A Led Zeppelin shirt!" I said, getting it out of the box. I've seen this shirt a million times before, but now, it seemed to be more than just a shirt.
I looked at Steven and he looked at me. "Yeah, it's my favorite one. You're with me now, so I wanted you to have it." He said. I smiled at him. In that moment, because of Steven's somewhat girlish gift, in a sentimental kind of way, it felt like we were the only two people in the room.
"See, this is what I mean when you turn into a total girl." I said smiling. "Oh, come on, you love me." He said. I nodded and hugged him. "Of course I do, you're my boyfriend." I said as he put his arm over my shoulders. Right after I said that, reality came crashing back like a slap to the face, in the form of Red yelling.
I looked at Steven and our eyes went wide. The both of us scrambled to our feet. "He's your what!?" He asked. I was shaking, I don't know what would happen next. I felt Steven grab my hand. He either knew I was freaking out and wanted to help me calm down, or was freaking out himself, or both.
"Red, don't yell." Kitty said. "What do you mean don't yell! These two have been doing god knows what behind our backs!" He said. I shook my head. "Dad, stop! You have no idea what you are talking about! I run away and people automatically assume I'm gunna do it again! People find out I'm dating Steven and seem to think they know what's best for me!" I said yelling at him.
"I want Steven out!" He said. I shook my head. "Will you for once please listen to me!?" I asked him. "I am telling you that Steven stays here. Nothings happened, all we're doing is being teenagers for gods sake! And I don't think this is some weird dating fling or whatever the hell people call it! I have been in love with this curly headed guy since I was 11!" I said.
"You don't know what you're talking about!" Red yelled. I rolled my eyes. "I don't know what I'm talking about? God, listen to yourself, your trying to argue with me because I'm happy, your just not happy with the guy I love, we'll sorry Red, this isn't about you!" I said.
"You will not talk to me like that!" He said. I shook my head. "If you love someone, you'll do anything to make them happy, so I guess you don't love me." I said, letting go of Stevens hand and running to the basement.
"Red you should of just stopped talking." Kitty said. "Alright, parties over!" Kitty said as she showed people to the door. Steven started walking to the kitchen to go check on Janie. "Where the hell are you going!?" Red yelled from across the living room.
Steven scoffed. "I'm gonna go comfort my girlfriend that I love because her dads an ass!" He yelled walking out of the living room. "Who else knew about this?" Red asked Donna, Eric, Fez, Kelso, and Jackie.
"Dad, we all did." Eric said. "And you didn't do anything to stop it from happening?" He asked him. Eric shook his head. "I trust Hyde, he's not a bad person, especially when it comes to Janie. She changes him." He explained.
"Red, I also knew, and before you get mad, I didn't tell you because I knew this is how you'd react. They're both smart, okay, we have to trust the both of them. If they're happy, then all they really need now, is for you to get your head out of your ass and support them!" Kitty said walking to the kitchen.
"One hell of a secret!" Laurie said smiling, because for once, it wasn't her that Red was disappointed in.
He went to the garage. Janie and Steven were in the basement. "I can't believe him." Janie said through tears. "I know. But we can't really do anything and neither can he. We just gotta wait it out man." Steven said from where he was sitting next to Janie.
She nodded. "I freaking hate this birthday...except for your shirt and the rest of the gifts, those were nice." She said. "Your welcome." He said.
The two stayed there for awhile, not talking or anything, just sitting there, waiting for when Red was done throwing his hissy fit, waiting for it all to blow over.
Screw this birthday, man.
