Chapter 19: Snow Days

Start from the beginning

You grinned at Sam as Dean let out a huff in protest. "Thanks Sam."

"Don't thank me. He's your problem now. I'm wiping my hands clean..." Sam joked before asking Dean  seriously. "All jokes aside. How're you doing?"

You moved your hand onto Dean's thigh is support, not sure what he was going to answer with. "I got my girl by my side and I'm all rested up. Can't ask for more than that... Just ah, don't go looking too hard for any cases just yet. Let's have a few snow days." You saw him smirk.

Sam rolled his eyes at that last comment. "Yeah okay... And the mark?"

"Like I said, I'm good." Dean reiterated. It seemed he didn't plan on telling Sam what he had told you last night about giving up.

"Right..." Sam cleared his throat. "So ah, what did you two get up to last night? The g-rated version. You clearly went out somewhere, did you at least take her someplace nice?"

You looked over at Dean, exchanging a glance before you added. "Yeah."

After cleaning up from breakfast, you found yourself in Dean's room once more, preparing to Netflix and Chill for the day. You had brought some snacks and water with you on his suggestion so you didn't have to leave for much more than bathroom breaks. Something you were definitely on board with.

Sam had unknowingly reminded you about the discussion you needed to have with Dean regarding the protection spell. You just didn't know when there would ever be an appropriate time to bring it up. But bring it up you must. And so before you could get too settled, you decided to rip the Band-Aid off then and there.

"There's um, something I need to tell you and I've been waiting for the right time, but I don't think there ever will be a perfect moment to bring it up..."

Dean had been searching for the next instalment of All Saints Day on his laptop and he stopped to look at you, a concerned look on his face. "What is it?"

"The um... The other night, at the barn with Cain. I felt the pins and needles again, like the protection spell was starting..." Dean's eyes widened at you and you placed a hand on his knee to try and keep him calm. "But it didn't. It stopped before it even began and the Chinese burn feeling didn't come. I wasn't cut up either, obviously. I mean, you saw..."

"When?" He asked hurriedly.

That's the part you were the most afraid of telling him. "When you first held the blade, and then about twenty minutes later, before you came out again... The others saw lightening around the same time."

"The lightning happened right after I killed Cain... Did Cass or Crowley notice?"

You shook your head. "If Crowley noticed he didn't say anything. And Cass was surprised when I asked him about it."

"You told Cass before me?" There was hurt in his voice.

"He brought up the glowing again after you left the mess room to go to sleep." You attempted to explain yourself, hoping he'd understand. "So I took the opportunity to ask him... I wanted to tell you first, but I didn't want to disturb you while you were resting..."

Dean grabbed the hand you had rested on his knee and squeezed once in reassurance. The simple gesture relieving you, knowing that he understood.

"You know back at the barn?" You continued. "You asked me what was going on in my head and we said we'd talk about it later?" Dean simply nodded at you, waiting for you to continue. "Not exactly then, but, while I was waiting for Sam to give me the okay to come over to you... I remembered what Crowley once said to me, about being left on the side of the road. That the spell put me there at the exact place and time?"
