April 2015

It was now late evening near Des Moines, Iowa. You and Dean were still on your mission to find snacks for everyone. While Sam and Charlie worked on cracking the Book of the Damned.

Dean had suggested burgers and fries to fill your now emptied stomach but you decided something simple like crackers would suffice. Especially in case the nausea came back, as there was still a chance you would both need to be in the book's presence once again when you returned to Bobby's cabin.

In all honestly, you were fairly certain Dean just wanted a double bacon cheeseburger. And you felt a little guilty that you were taking the chance away from him.

Not that you had come across any diner or fast food restaurant that would sell them as of yet. No. The first place you had found, some forty miles down the road, was a Gas n' Sip. And that was as best as you were going to get without driving further.

As Baby didn't need fuel, Dean parked the Impala away from the pumps, placing her on the other side of them to the store. A good twenty metres away. "I'll go in. You sit tight." He said as he stepped out of the car.

"Okie dokie." You replied. His suggestion suiting you just fine, with your energy all but zapped since the nausea.

You heard him laugh at your response as he moved to the boot and opened it. The sounds of him rummaging through the secret compartment had you curious. Until you saw what it was that he had retrieved and your eyes rolled.

"Seriously?" You asked as he handed you the angel blade he'd selected from his arsenal. "Is this really necessary? You'll be gone five minutes."

"I'm not taking any chances sweetheart. Pull your gun out too." Dean replied as he leant through the car's open window. "Gotta keep my future wife safe."

That comment caused you to stutter and you managed to choke out in retort. "How about we just stick to girlfriend for now, seeing we're not there yet?"

Dean just laughed at you as he headed towards the convenience store's entrance. His body still shaking as he walked through the glass sliding door.

Jeez, you thought. 'Why did I let him talk me into that conversation?'

Sure. It was nice to talk about the future. But you'd been dating for what, a month? And yes, you were friends beforehand, but again, you hadn't even had your first fight yet. Not that you particularly wanted one. But you needed to know you were really compatible right? Isn't that how it worked? There were a lot of buts and open ended questions. Your mind was swimming with them.

How was it, that Dean Winchester seemed more comfortable talking about this stuff than you did?

That was dangerous stereotyping, you scolded yourself. Just because he was a guy didn't mean he held a default role of not being good at serious discussions. You seemed to be doing a much better job of that yourself at the present time.

Maybe it was his age? He had a few years on you and maybe that made him ready for this kind of stuff. Now you were just moving from buts to maybes and you realised it was probably better to stop presuming at all. What do they say? Assuming makes an arse out of you and me.

One thing you were certain about, was that you were relieved he had let you stay and wait in the car the way he had. Even with the weapons. Giving you some more time to think and wrap your head around what you'd just discussed.

He wanted a future with you. He'd told you this before, but it was only sinking in now, what he really meant. And you had butterflies in your stomach because of it. The good kind, not like the ones you'd had back at the cabin.
