Chapter 1: The Masquerade

Start from the beginning

You walked over to the bar and sat your stuff down on the counter, "May I get a glass of wine, please?" You asked the bartender. He turned around, "As you wish, m'lady," he said as he pulled out a bottle of wine and poured you a glass. "Thank you," you replied as you grabbed the glass and took a sip. He nodded in response as he tended the other guests.

You sighed as you turned around in your seat, listening to all the chattering taking place around you, 'I guess I should've invited a plus one,' you thought to yourself. "Oh well," you shrugged, placing your glass back down on the counter, "I'm bound to make the acquaintance of at least one person here," you chuckled lightly to yourself, sure no one could hear you over all the noise.

After a little while, you finished your glass of wine, and felt the need to freshen up and take a small break. "Excuse me!" You called out to the bartender who almost immediately turned around and walked over to you, "May you watch over my handbag for me while I go to the powder room to freshen up?" You asked, grabbing a couple of things from your handbag and rising from your seat as he nodded and grabbed it, putting it under the counter. "Thank you," you nodded as you turned on your heel to make your way to the powder room.

As you arrived to the powder room, you took off your mask and set it on the counter as you touched up your makeup a bit. As you stood there a group of women walked in laughing and chatting. Ignoring them, you stood at the mirror fixing yourself up while they walked past you, a couple of them went into stalls to do their business while the other one stood at the other end of the counter.

"Hello, darlin'," she said with a heavy southern accent, grabbing your attention. "Hello!" you greeted politely as you smiled, taking note of her features. She had short blonde hair which was curled for the event, lightly tanned skin, and bright blue eyes which were noticeably radiant through her dark colored mask.

"I jus' wanted to say, ya dress looks absolutely stunnin', it truly is the bees knees!" she said enthusiastically as she pointed to your dress with a smile on her face. "Why thank you!" you giggled lightly as you spun around to show it off a bit.
"May I ask, where did ya get this fine piece o' needlework?" she asked as she put her hands on her hips. "Oh actually, I made it myself!", you answered as she gasped.

"Ohh really~! Well you did such a fine job on it, amazin' work sweetheart!" you chuckled at her compliment. "Thank you so much! I actually own my own boutique here in the downtown, I make and sell all my own pieces there!" you beamed. "Ohh well that's nice~! So you're a businesswoman I see!" the lady winked at you with a big smile on her face. You laughed a bit, "Yeah, I guess you could say that!".

"If you don't mind me askin', deary. What's the name of ya boutique? I would love to pay ya a visit sometime!" she said as she waved her hand. "Of course! It's the 'Bayou-tiful Boutique'!" you responded. "Oh my stars! I've heard of that place! I've heard very good things about it, quite a few o' my friends shop there!" she remarked as her friends exited their stalls and made their way to the sinks.

You smiled, "Well i'm glad to hear that Miss- umm.." you paused, realizing you hadn't caught her name. "Rosie! The names Rosie, and yours dear?" she replied politely after seeing the slight confusion on your face. "I'm (Name)," you smiled as you held out your hand for her to shake. Rosie took your hand and shook gently, putting her other hand on the back of yours. "The pleasure is all mine, sweetie!" she grinned at you as she released your hand.

You chuckled lightly as you grabbed your things, preparing to head back to the bar. "Well, Rosie, I hope you have a wonderful rest of your night!" you smiled as you turned around and began walking out. "You too sweetheart!" you heard Rosie from behind you as you opened the door and walked out with a small smile on your face.
