In front of me was shadows of trees silhouetted by the full moon. But it was not enough to see through the dense forest ahead of me.
Anyways it's better than nothing, I thought.I dashed off and kept running through the woods.
I heard owls hooting in the trees and bats fly above me.
It was really creepy. But it didn't bother me.
I ran as fast as I could.Branches hit my face and entwined in my hair as I ran through. Some of them even bruised my hands as I tried to get them away from me. I didn't care about as I was more determined on going home.
'Ah!' I exclaimed as I felt something sharp ripping my arm.
I stopped to inspect what it was. I felt my shirt arm turning dark and damp. I applied pressure to the area with my other hand, wincing as it started to sting.
I was panting hard as if my heart is about to come out of my chest. So I stopped to look around me. It was so dark and unsettling. I don't know how many miles I've ran, so the more I look, the more I feel like there's no way out.
So I kept going.
To be honest I was scared and tired. I bumped into tree roots and hit the muddy ground a few times as I ran through, cursing as I did.
I ran and ran my legs feeling numb, until I heard a sound of water gushing.
there's a stream somewhere!
I was terribly thirsty and tired, I needed water as my life depended on it.
I stepped foward a few more meters and found the tree line end.The relief I felt was overwhelming, yet it's not over. It can go worse or it can go right. The probability of things getting worse is high.
Still, nothings worth without taking a risk.
Ahead was a large meadow going downhill and again rising up , between the slopes was a small stream, I recognized it because of the water sparkling in the moonlight, as it flowed over and around small stones .
I quickly ran downhill through the tall grass and stepped on the water stream . To my excitement, I fell, with my face splashing in the icy water.
I lifted my head up, took a palm full of icy cold water and drank it in one gulp. The water so cool it gave me a brain freeze. After fuelling up myself a little bit , I crossed the ice cold stream and continued up hill and the ground became smooth and flat.
There was a main road, and on the other side were shadows of trees with enormous trunks. There were no street lights, so moonlight was my only light source. How strange.
The trunks were so large you can build a small house inside it.
Suddenly a flash of light between a line of trees caught my eye.Was I dreaming? I rubbed my eyes to see if it's something the cold water did to me. But no. There IS an actual flash of light visible across the tree branches!
I quickly crossed the road over to the other side.
I slowly examined the tree line and saw a large shadow of a huge mansion with dimly lit lights in the distance.
I crept towards the mansion and found myself in Sandy pathway across the line of trees.
This must be the back garden of the mansion.
I actually stepped on a small tree branch on the floor making it crack.
A flashlight came in the direction of me, so I hid behind a tree to avoid getting caught.
I slowly crept towards the house.
'Who's there?' I heard a man call out.
He started to approach me.
If I stay here I'm going to be a dead duck.Alright Y/N fight or flight?
Without wasting a second, I ran as fast as I can.
'STOP! POLICE! OR I'LL SHOOT!' He yelled.
I didn't care, I'm not falling into more traps again!
BANG! BANG! BANG!
I heard a bullet flew past me.
Finally I'm near the house. Because of the gun shots more lights turned on.
I ended up near the back door of the house.
I slowly crept near a window of it and peeked in. I got a glimpse of the living room through the curtain.
I couldn't figure out lots of details as my vision got blurry. I looked down at my arm and I was shocked to see the whole left side of my shirt covered in blood.
Was I shot too?!
My arm felt numb I couldn't move it properly. I need to find help as soon as possible.
So I thought of ringing the bell. I was terribly exhausted and dizzy. I gathered all my strength and went up the steps that lead me to the main door.
I somehow rang the bell as hard and fast I could and sat on the stairs panting hard , my vision getting blurry again. My whole body hurt so bad I started to cry in pain.
Seconds the door flung open by a man cursing with words I've never heard before and along with another tall man. Both of them froze as they saw me.
I heard footsteps behind me.
'Please Help me, I don't want to die! I moaned.
"Billions of blue blistering barnacles!"
"Good heavens!"
They said one after another.
"Captain you all right?...Great Snakes!" Another shorter man exclaimed as he saw me.
"Blimey! Is that..." I heard one of the men who chased me say.
"Captain help me quick!" One of the men from the house yelled as he tried to pick me up. The other men helped him.
The lights from the inside made my head pound in pain. I tried to get up with their help but I felt down.
I felt someone carry me.
I couldn't recognize them clearly as I felt my body shutting down .
'Miss Tarragon! Please stay with me!' a voiced echoed.
'I'm...s-shot' I felt myself whimper.
'Captain be careful with her hand!' the voice echoed again.
'Aye lad!' I heard another reply.
I heard more voices but the words aren't clear.
I tried to answer but I couldn't.
'please... help... me ...'
thats all I was able to say before falling again into the familiar pitch black darkness.
TO BE CONTINUED .
