A boat sails through the ocean getting closer to the Island on a cloudy and foggy day. Y/n looks out towards the sea while Jake reads his book and his dad listens. "Cairnholm. Population of 92. Best known for its proximity to the final resting place of the cruise liner Augusta to the final resting place of the cruise liner Augusta, which sank in 1915. There is just one hotel...That's us." Jake says.

"Yeah. I hope there's bourbon." Jake's dad says jokingly.

Above them, a Peregrine Falcon calls out catching their attention. "Oh, wow! Jake, Y/n, check it out. That's a Peregrine Falcon." Jake's dad says not taking his attention away from the bird.

"A Peregrine' like the headmistress?" Jake questions.

"Sure." Jake's dad sighs. "That's probably where Grandpa came up with that whole turning into a bird thing." He says.

"Or maybe, maybe that's really her!" Jake says bumping his shoulder to Y/n. "Hey, Miss Peregrine! It's us, Jake and Y/n! We're Abe Portman's grandson! Please don't crap on us!" Jake screams, making Y/n and Jake's dad look at him weirdly. "Oh my God. I'm kidding."

Y/n shakes her head in disbelief and turns her attention back to the Peregrine Falcon that follows the boat. She gets a feeling that she has seen the bird before, but doesn't know where or when. She sighed in annoyance when she couldn't think of an answer and went back looking at the sea.

The boat docks and the three get out with their bags and start walking to the hotel they are staying at. They enter the hotel to see it empty and looking a little run-down.

"What the...Hello? Hello? Anybody home?" Jake's dad calls out as he walks around. Jake and Y/n place their bags down on a table and get a closer look at the wall that had different newspaper clips and pictures hung up. They see one picture of a man that is disformed and gets startled when they hear laughing behind them. They turned around to see a guy in a wheelchair and another guy who was pushing him.

"Oh, hey. Any idea where I'd find the manager of this place?" Jake's dad asks as he walks closer to the two people who appear.

"That's me. Sorry to keep you. Just helping Uncle Oggie to the loo." The Manager says sticking his hand out. Jake's dad nods and hestanly grabs the Manager hand's. "I'm Kev. There's room upstairs." Kev says.

"Oh, great." Jake's dad says and watches as Kev goes back to Uncle Oggie. "I'll be back in a bit." Kev says and Uncle Oggie nods.

"Kev's just getting our suite ready. Um, while we're waiting I thought maybe we could go check out the beach." Jake's dad says while hanging his binoculars around his neck.

"I thought we would go to the children's home. Is the beach where the birds nest?" Jake questions.

"I thought we could just check it out real quick." Jake's dad answers.

"We could go to the home by ourselves. Then, you can really take your time and enjoy it." Jake says and Y/n could feel the tension start to strain.

"Come on, Jakey. You know your mom would freak."

"What if we can find someone to take us?" Jake asks. They walk outside to see a group of teens sitting in front of the hotel, talking about whatever.

"Hey, dudes." Jake's dad says making all of them look at the three. Jake tries to stop him, but it doesn't work. "I was just wondering if any of you guys might be interested in taking my son and daughter here to the other side of the island."

No one moves or says anything, so Jake's dad goes into his pocket and takes out a $20 bill. He hands it out and one of the guys takes it. Jake's dad turns to the duo and pats Jake's cheek then pats Y/n's head as he walks towards the beach.

The two look at the group in front of them and Jake takes Y/n's hands to help comfort them both.

"So, what are your names?" Jake asks the two boys who walk with them.

"I'm Worm. This is McDirty D."

"McDirty Bizniz." McDirty corrects.

"I thought you changed it." Worm questions.

"No." McDirts answers.

"No, you did, remember? When Ruth said "McDirty Bizin" made it sound like you cacked your trousers." Worm explains.

"Yeah, but she said "Dirty D" sounded like a personal hygiene problem." McDirty counters back.

"Wait. Are these, like nicknames, or..." Jake asks since both him and Y/n look at each other confused.

"Stage names, We're the sickest rappers in Wales. Go on, Worm. Show this Yank how it's done." McDirty gestures.

"What? Now?" Worm says and McDirty starts beatboxing. "A'like to get wrecked down the Priest Hole. Your dads always here cause he's on the dole. Our rhymes are tight Yet I make it look easy. Our beats are hot like chicken jalfrezi." Worm finished rapping and the two looked at Jake and Y/n, waiting for their input.

"Oh, yeah, no. It's good." Jake stammers while Y/n nods in agreement. When the two boys look away, Jake looks at Y/n silently shaking his head in disagreement as she widens her eyes.

The group walked for a few more minutes and started walking up a steep hill. "Should we take the shortcut, D?" Worm asks.

"We'll get there quicker. Take it from me." McDirty says. Both boys stop and point down to a path that looks worn down.

"What, down here?" Jake asks and takes Y/n's hand to help her walk down. They look back at the boys and they gesture to keep going. They cross over a little stream and look back at the two boys in question. "This way?" Jake asks again and the two boys point forward.

Jake takes a couple of steps forward as Y/n follows when suddenly Jake's foot sinks in the mud. Y/n looks at the two boys in anger, who laugh and help Jake get his foot unstuck. "Is this even the way to the children's home?" Jake asks, also getting angry.

"Right through those trees." McDirty says and the two keep walking forward.

Jake helps Y/n through the trees as she mumbles angrily and they walk till they see an opening at the end of the path. They looked around and stopped when they saw an old ruined house standing.

"We should wait till tomorrow, when there is more sun and where you are not missing a shoe." Y/n says and Jake nods in agreement.

~~~
They entered the hotel and turned to the side when they heard Uncle Oggie put his cup down. "No use crying over a lost shoe, boy-o. At least the girl was more careful in keeping both of her shoes." Uncle Oggie says chuckling. Jake sits down next to Oggie as Y/n stands behind him.
"The children's home. What happened to it?" Jake asks.
"A German air raid. Bomb fell right on the roof. September the 3rd, 1943."Oggie answered.
"Where did they go after? The headmistress and the children" Jake asks and Y/n's head falls already knowing what happened to them.
"Not one survivor. Poor little buggers. And they were lovely, too." Oggie says. Y/n puts her hand on Jake's shoulder to calm him down after hearing the news.
