"What's taking him so long." M/n grumbled while sitting on the office chair. Using his leg to spin it slowly.
Currently he was waiting for Maverick to get back. He said he needed to change his clothes into a more appropriate type. He didn't need to, that guy already looks rich enough.
To waste some time, he looked at the contents on the desk. Some files and documents, he already read through it and it was just boring information. An empty cup, a few pens. That's about it..
Until of course something caught his eye. Under the documents was an instant print photo. He picked up and observed the photo. It was a picture of Maverick and him in the past. He was eating an ice cream while Maverick sneakily took a picture by how it looked like.
Nothing looked off, it was just them having a fun time. Now he's wondering what would've happened if Maverick didn't leave him in the past. How much his personality would've changed.
He shook his head at the thought, he shouldn't think too much of it. Right when he was about to put it back to its place, he noticed something off with the picture. He took a closer look and noticed that his shadow..it didn't look normal at all.
His waist was alot of smaller, actually his figure looked thin and a bit disfigured. His hands looked sharp, and his shadow had two round White eyes where his eyes should be..it looked similar to when Logan took a photo of the phantom they encountered at the sorrel house.
He grabbed his mouth while looking at the photo.
"Could that mean.." The door suddenly opened and he quickly slammed the picture down at the desk.
Maverick flinched a bit by the sudden movement and looked at him with a shock look.
"Did I suprise you that much?.." Maverick sighed while rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry I took too long, we should get going soon......what?"
Right now he was looking at Maverick weirdly, as if he was judging him.
"..I prefer your turtlenecks over this." He muttered.
"So do I, but the higher ups are a pain. I need to keep up a facade for it." Maverick agreed with him.
"Well I hope I don't have to see this often then." M/n spat out.
"No need to say it twice, I already get your point." An irk mark appeared on Maverick's face before exhaling. "This kid is going to be the death of me.."
"Let's get going now that I have energy to deal with corrupted stuck up people." He sighed while standing up.
"I have to warn you they can be quite pestering. Also heads up." Maverick pressed a button on the remote which made the two gadgets stick to eachother like handcuffs. "I know you don't go killing people randomly, but the bosses are too scared you might do something."
"It's fine, actually I'm quite honored that I managed to make them scared of me. Makes it more easier to intimidate them." He answered.
"Let's go then." Maverick responded, he was about to put his hand on his shoulder before he backed away.
"No physical contact." He glared.
"Noted." Maverick cleared his throat. "Walk beside me and don't go wandering off."
Right now him and Maverick were walking down the hallway, some employees and nurses backed away from them as they got closer. He pouted a bit by the action.
"They're treating me as if I'm an insane patient.." He murmured.
"That's because you are. And may I remind you that you killed a person by snapping their neck with your brute strength." Maverick pointed out.
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that." He responded which made Maverick glance at him for a while.
"Before he was having a panic attack about how he killed a person and now he forgot about it. Sometimes I can't predict his next actions." Maverick mentally sighed at him, well he can't blame him at all. A lot of events happened, it was only a matter of time he'll have trouble remembering things due to the amount of trauma he's going through.
Ashlyn and Alex plus some guard, escorted her out of the lab to get back to her quarter. The uneasy feeling was still there, the sounds of phantoms slowly but sure faded. Still she was still shock by what she saw.
I mean disfigured humans who looks malnourished and are oddly similar to the phantoms. That was a view she wasn't particularly expecting, not traumatizing, they're fighting off phantoms every night for fuck's sakes. But it was still unpleasant.
What made it worse is that before she woke up in the facility. She had dreamt of M/n with the same condition but in a less gruesome way. Nevertheless that dream horrified her to the bones. Her childhood friend, her very first friend and best friend who's also her crush. Turning into one of them?
That's the last thing she'll ever want to happen. He's already gone through a lot of things, him turning into a phantom would simply make her snap.
"I need to check up on him once we're aloud to see eachother." She furrowed her eyebrows, they were close to the elevator.
The three of them waited for the other door open. The sound of the two elevator doors beeping caught her attention and waited for the door to fully open. While the other side finally opened, she already moved her feet to go inside. Until of course, she caught a sight of a familiar [Hair Color] walk past them made her stop walking.
Right when she was about to look back and call out for his name, Alex immediately covered her mouth and pulled her inside the elevator. Ushering the guard to close the elevator door, the door closed right when he was about to turn his head to look at her.
"Did I hear my name just now?" He looked back at the elevator door that had just closed before he could even catch a glimpse on the person.
"Perhaps it's one of the many rebellious patients, let's continue." Maverick ushered while lightly pushing him to keep walking, making sure he wasn't able to see his panicked face. "That was far too close, I'll have to talk to Alex later."
"Y'know I expected the room we're going to be in a higher floor, what's the change?" He asked.
"The boss just wanted to see the conditions of the other patients, I don't particularly know why they wanted to talk to you now. Out of all the times.." Maverick grumbled. "Obviously they wanted to see how he would react with the experiments, this could go wrong in so many ways."
Maverick bumped into him shortly after. He gavef him a puzzled look on why he suddenly stopped walking and noticed that he was looking at the door that led to the lab.
"He could already sense that there's something wrong in this distance? Fascinating." Maverick's eyes glimmered in curiosity.
"Are you sure..we're going the right way." It was clear that hesitancy was evident in his tone.
"Yes, the boss commanded that this is where you'll meet him." Maverick confirmed, he noticed how the lights flickered a bit and how the growling became louder even though they were outside.
"..this better be quick." He muttered before he started walking again.
Maverick had a feeling this is gonna cause more questions for him. He just hopes at least one of his questions will be answered.
A/n: another short chapter, I'll try making it more..lore-y? In the next chapter, anyways I kind of miss silly and upbeat M/n. But dude is so traumatized and tired.
