"This is beacon hills?" I asked disappointed looking over the horizon of the city
"Yep." A sigh replied
"This is the town that attracts supernatural creatures?"
"Yep." A disappointed face turned to me
"And this is where Scott, the true alpha, lives?"
"Yep."
"Liam, you're actually kidding right?"
"Unfortunately not."
"This town looks so boring! I thought it would be like lively, city like, crazy. This town looks like where my grandma would live!"
"I know. But it's home. And it's where my pack is."
"Your pack." I whispered "are you even sure Scott will let me be a part of your pack? I'm not even a werewolf."
"Scott lets anyone in. Humans, banshees, werecoyotes, anyone."
I sighed trying to push out my negative thoughts and feelings and tried to trust Liam. I mean how could I not trust someone I've known since I was in elementary school.
"I still think it's weird you never told me. It might have been easier to understand myself being a werewolf if I knew you were a..." liam paused his train of thought along with his walking and looked at me "what even are you?"
"I'm a witch. But I mostly just turn into a bird. I've been having trouble with my powers."
"When did you start getting your powers?"
"At 18. So really I've only been supernatural for a year."
"Y/n, you're almost 21..."
I hushed him still refusing to believe i was in my 20s. I tried my hardest to forget about it.
"It still would have made me feel better knowing about it. I could have known for almost a full year before turning!"
"I know I know! I'm sorry I didn't tell you. But to be fair I never told anyone!"
"You could have told your best friend!"
"I get it okay?? But you moved... and I felt like you didn't need me anymore. And you were going through a lot. You needed more help than I could give you so I just didn't want to make it worse by telling you."
Liams face went soft. His brows mixed into a look of remorse and sadness.
"I'm sorry." He mumbled
"For what?"
"I know I pushed you away a lot in middle school. Especially before I moved. I just had a lot of anger inside me and I didn't know how to fix it. I remember saying a lot of things I never should have said."
I pulled Liam into me and gave him a tight hug.
"Liam I will always love you. You're like my brother at this point. And I knew you were hurting so I never took it personally."
He just hugged me back tighter and tighter.
"Okay...Liam!" The air was starting to dissipate from my lungs. "Liam! Too tight! Werewolf strength! Too much!"
He let go and apologised again dusting off my shirt.
"Let's just go please. I'm tired and Scott's gonna have a lot of questions." He took a revitalising breath and we both made our way into the town."So who is she again?" Stiles asked trying to figure out how to feel about me
"She's my friend. She's from my old hometown."
"And what are you?" Scott asked
"I'm a witch."
"Show us something." The looming figure, named Derek, commanded.
"Uh... okay." I took off my jacket and took a running leap until my body shrunk into the form of a crow. I glided around the room until I made it back to where Liam was standing and returned to my original form.
"Sick." Mason laughed and nodded "so why didn't you ever tell us?"
"I didn't tell Liam because of what he was going through. And I didn't tell you because I thought you'd think I was crazy."
"If you turned into a bird I'd believe you!" He motioned to the path I had taken through the living room while I was flying. He laughed which made me giggle as well.
"Well that took me a while to master."
"So what else can you do?" Derek grumbled and walked closer to the circle of friends
"Well I can do most magic but I'm not totally in control yet."
"That's fine. Show us something else."
"What do you want to see?"
"Turn that lamp into an animal."
"That's not really how magic works. It has to be within the laws of the universe. Everything has a balance. I can't turn inanimate objects into living beings. It's more elemental, not inter-dimensional."
"Okay then turn stiles into something."
"How about I turn you into something?" I snapped realizing he wasn't taking me seriously.
He glared at me and glance down at my hands. I hadn't realized they started to engulf in a small flame. I shook my hands to snuff the flame and scoffed.
"I'm guessing your power is backed by emotion." Liam said
"Yeah. All supernatural existence is. It's a manifestation, or a magnification, of our existence."
"That's why our control of our powers is limited to our minds." Scott was connecting the pieces
"And why kanimas exist." Stiles dropped in.
"What's a kanima?" I asked
"It's kinda like a lizard human thing that obeys orders and can evolve to have wings. It can happen when someone gets bitten. Your shape is a reflection of who you are."
"Makes sense. Most witches have an animal that represents them. That's the animal they turn in to."
"So your animal is a crow?" Stiles asked with a sour look on his face. I nodded my head with a smile. I was not ashamed of my animal.
"I guess it could be worse. You could be like a snail or something." Stiles shrugged
"So why did you come here?" Derek brought the attention back to an actual conversation.
"I don't know really. But when Liam and I found out about each other, and I learned he had a pack, I figured why not? I don't know anyone where I'm from that's like us. And Liam said Scott was always open to a new pack member."
"He was right about that. I'm always open for a new face." Scott nodded "you're absolutely free to join if you'd like, especially because you're friends with Liam."
"Thanks Scott." I smiled at him.
"So now that you're a part of his pack, what are you going to do?" Derek smirked
"I'll probably live with Liam and help you guys out with whatever. Maybe I'll hone my powers some more."
"You don't seem like you're too confident with a plan." Derek drilled me
"I'll figure it out. You're not my mother and I'm an adult. You can't even be that much older than me anyway. What are you? 23?"
"24."
"Exactly. I'm very fine without your concern thank you."
"Fine."
"Fine."
I felt my blood boil as he crawled under my skin. He is not and will never be my friend. I've been here for two seconds and he's already breathing down my neck.
"Scott, can I talk to you alone for a minute?" Derek grumbled pulling Scott asideThird pov
Derek sighed and looked Scott in the eyes.
"I know you want to help everyone and make them feel included, but we can't just go adding people left and right."
"We aren't. She's friends with Liam."
"She's some witch we dont even know. We are just taking their word for it. And what can she even do? She's just gonna be dead weight if she can't even use the magic she says she has."
"Derek I get that you're in this for survival but she's alone. She needs a pack."
"She's not alone! She has Liam."
"Liam who is a part of my pack. It would be weird if she wasn't as well."
Derek just rolled his eyes and sighed heavy as he crossed his arms. He knew he wasn't winning this fight. Scott was too headstrong when it came to helping people out.
"Fine. Whatever. Do what you want with her but all that songbird can do is sing."
