Ch 25- The Truth

"I came from a place outside... the walls where humanity lives in elegance. Humanity has not perished. I pray the person who finds this book is a fellow patriot." Mikasa and Eren go to then turn the next page as Hange finishes reading the paragraph, a grim silence in the air. However, as the Scouts look down, they find another picture, only this time Levi moves forward, voice cracking in shock as he looks at it. "Is that..." Hange looks over his shoulder as Eren and Mikasa also look at the page before them with trembling hands. "[y/n]?" On the page was another photograph, this time of a man with blond hair and blue eyes, just like the woman who was posed next to Eren's father in the previous photo. Next to him and smiling softly was a woman, only she was the mirror image of you. Clear [s/c] skin, bright [e/c] eyes, long [h/c] hair and angelic features much like your own. In her grasp was a young child, fast asleep.

On the underside of this photo was a short blunt sentence. "The deceased brother and family of my previous wife... Dina Fritz."

You awoke with a gasp, breathing harshly as you sat up, moving to grasp at your pounding head only to look down. You were on a bed in an empty room, chains around your wrists. You felt your heart rate begin to pick up. Where are you? Then, your memories start to flood back to you. You were with Reiner, about to kill him. He had muttered strange words to you... about how someone needed you, as they needed Eren. Then, the prick on your upper arm, the drowsiness, the Titan approaching you and the strange blond-haired man next to you. You look around at the barren walls trying to calm down. It was almost like a cell from what you could see. Just as you were about to lose yourself to your thoughts on ways to escape, you heard the door click and looked up.

It was him.

The same blond-haired man with glasses walked into the room, only now he had regained his limbs and wore a plain button-up shirt. He eyes the room tiredly before he turns to you, a wide smile reaching his face. "[y/n]! You're awake," he says before approaching you. You, in turn, frown at him as he goes to sit at a table by your bed. "Who are you?" You utter darkly looking at his blue eyes through his circular glasses. "Why did you bring me here? What do you want? Where am I?" He holds up his hand at your questions, only making your anger surge more. "Calm down, we'll get to that in a second. Can't a man just be happy to see an old relative?" You freeze at his words, lungs contracting at his statement. Relative?

He eyes your surprise and frowns half-heartedly. "What? You didn't know that either?" He lets out a deep sigh as he shakes his head almost disappointedly. "I would've thought your mother would've at least-" You cut him off swiftly, irritation bubbling in your mind at the lack of answers and now the mention of your mother in such a dissatisfied tone. "My mother is dead." You say as you let a brief silence take over. The man in front of you sighs once more at your words, a grim look adorning his face. "I'm sorry to hear that. Just as I expected though. I guess even she couldn't survive the trip to the paradise." You look up at his words, eyebrows furrowing. Why was this man speaking as though he would know anything about you?

"Where am I?" You repeat your question in the silent room as he finally looks up at you, eyes gleaming under his glasses. "I guess I should answer your questions now shouldn't I..." he mutters before sitting up and looking at you. "You're in Marley. A nation across the sea from where you came from... Paradis Island." You freeze at his words in shock. An Island? A nation beyond the walls? "H-how?" You mutter out as he looks at your confusion, deep contemplation on his face as he decides to tell you what has happened.

He tells you about how roughly 1853 years ago, Ymir Fritz, an ancestor of the people known as the Eldians made a contract with the Devil of all Earth and obtained the Power of the Titans. Upon her death, Ymir's spirit was split into the nine Titans forming the Eldian Empire. He told you how the Empire defeated Marley and ruled over the continent, bringing forth the Dark Ages when the Subjects of Ymir saw other races as inferior and suppressed them. The Ethnic cleansing had continued for roughly 1700 more years, but Marley had then retained seven of the nine Titans under their control to overthrow the Eldians and win against them in the Great Titan War roughly 113 years ago. He tells you how the Eldian King at the time erected three walls on the Island of Paradis and fled there with many people, but he did not take all of his people there.
