Ch 33- A Happy Memory

You tilt your head curiously as you approach her. "Hey Sasha, what are you getting?" You ask as she turns to you face serious and yet excited at the same time. "Captain!" She says, eyes sparkling, "Would you like to get some too?! It's called ice cream!" She turns back to the vendor who gives her the strange food, a warm smile on his face. She eyes it and licks the ice cream tentatively, before recoiling as suddenly as she did. "This is flippin' cold!" She yells out catching the attention of Connie and Jean who were nearby and now approach you two. "Try it, Captain!" She grins at you as you nod eagerly, taking a tentative taste of the food before practically melting at the sweet, cool taste on your tongue. You feel yourself flush at the delicious taste as onlookers blush seeing such a joyful look on your face. Connie's eyes widen at your reaction now trying to have a taste for himself as the vendor laughs. "First time having ice cream?"

"Woah what the hell?"

"That done hit the spot!"

"One for me please!"

"And me!"

By the end of it, you, Sasha, Jean and Connie all had ice cream in your hands eyes gleaming and faces flushed. It was honestly one of the best things you had ever tasted and you looked around hoping to spot Levi to share the concoction. You finally spot him but he seems to have a dark expression in his eyes as Hange tries and fails to control their laughter next to them. You frown slightly in confusion approaching them, wondering if his demeanour had anything to do with the strange large man in colourful clothing, who was walking away from them. "Levi!" You call smiling but the disturbed look in his eyes doesn't fade, so you turn to Hange in curiosity. "What happened?" You ask as Hange is barely able to contain themselves but does so enough to let you know. "T-the clown," they say laughing, "they mistook Levi for a kid," Hange then continues in laughter as Onyankopon tries to hide his amusement and looks away. Levi clenched his teeth and shouts out to Hange to keep their mouth shut, but you can see the embarrassment clear on his face.

You smile, laughing at the idea as Levi looks at you in the betrayal that now you were laughing at him too. You stop when his deadly glare is pointed at you and sweatdrop before stopping abruptly as your laughter fades away. "Sorry, sorry," You say before Levi's eyes turn to the ice cream in your hands while Hange drags Onyankopon to another strange invention that catches their eye. You follow his gaze to your ice cream and notice it dripping slightly so you save it giving it a quick lick. "What's that?" Levi asks bluntly but his face becomes pink as you look up to him with one of the most excited looks from you he had ever seen. Your grin is wide and your eyes sparkling as you hold the food in front of him, "It's ice cream, Levi it's so good, try it!" Levi seems hesitant as he eyes the foreign substance in front of him, but ultimately gives in to your anticipation.

You are the one who now feels the blood rushing to your face as Levi holds your hand steadily before leaning forward and taking a lick of ice cream that was still in your grasp. He freezes momentarily as he releases your grip and stands back up, eyes sparking despite trying to hide his surprise at the wonderous taste. "H-how is it?" You ask trying to calm the flustered expression on your face. He meets your gaze and you see the faintest smile on his face as he tucks a strand of hair behind your ear. "It's alright." He says enjoying how easy it was to make you nervous despite being literally married to him. Your eyes widen at the gesture before breaking into a small smile, and the both of you wander around the markets for a little while.

Levi won't admit it but he adores the feeling of your hand in his as you both wander the streets for a brief while, making sure the squad is still in sight. It felt so right, just you and him, just like it should've always been. It was a strange parallel to the everyday life you were used to, fighting for your lives, fighting for another day. He despised and yet adored every time a stranger would approach you in a millisecond of his absence, only for you to proudly show off your ring and give said man a deathly glare if he had something unnecessary to say. He loved your contagious laughter, your soothing voice, almost allowing him to forget that he was on enemy territory. He loved the way your eyes gleamed when you saw something interesting, your incessant pleading for him to try every lavish food you tasted and your unwavering smile, all for him. His mood was only dampened when you all approached the squad once more, only for Levi to spot a young child sneaking around Sasha and stealing her purse.
