Chapter 11- Secrets Revealed

"Bad people. Bad peculiar. Abe dedicated his life hunting them down. These are the ones he never found." Emma explains.

"What you mean, hunting?" Jake questions.

Emma was silent for a few seconds before sighing. "They raided loops. Whole homes full of children left for dead. Abe took lives to save lives. He only retired when he adopted Y/n and then when you were born to protect you both." 

"From what?" Jake asks. Emma looked around the room deciding if she should say something or keep quiet. "You have to promise not to run away." Emma smiles at the end to try to lighten the mood. "Jake. Y/n. You belong here."

"You know we don't. We're not like you. We are just ordinary." Jake tries to convince Emma.

"No, you're not. Only a peculiar can enter a time loop." Emma justifies.

"No, it can't be. We probably got lucky and mistaken us with one of the others." Y/n tries to make sense of the situation they're stuck in.

"Fine." Emma then looks at her watch. "Then I'll show you both something else." She says as walks away from the duo.

Back at the house, Emma looks over one of the garden's walls. She looks down at Jake and Y/n standing on the ground behind her. "Hurry. You'll miss it." Emma exclaims and the two hurry up the wall beside Emma.

"Ymbrynes usually pick up the perfect day to create a loop. But Miss. Peregrine had to pick this one in a rush." Emma explains as they watch Miss. Peregrine walks away from the house with a crossbow in her hands.

"Why?" Jake asks.

"Because the Germans were about to drop a bomb on the house." Y/n softly says remembering the last time they came to the house and saw the loop restarting.

"Correct." Emma praise. "The point is September the 3rd, 1943 wasn't perfect. The thing that killed Victor came back." Emma says as they all pay close attention to Miss. Peregrine.

Miss. Peregrine stops a few meters away from the cliff and takes a look at her pocket watch. Once she notices the time, she looks ahead toward the long blades of grass and waits. Jake looks at the edge of the cliff and notices a creature climbing up and walking towards her.

"Wait! Watch out!" Jake screams out. Emma quickly tugs his are and shushes him. "You'll put her off!" Emma softly scolds.

Miss. Peregrine once again looks at her watch then towards the patch of grass seeing a trail forming. She raises the crossbow and once the creature is close enough, she shoots the bow and hits the creature in the head.

The creature roars out and falls backward on an outline of the past creature Miss. Peregrine shot down before. She smirks before placing the crossbow on her shoulder and walking back to the house.

Jake looks at the scene in front of him as Emma and Y/n observe his expression. "You can see it, can't you? No one else can. It's invisible, Jake. That was Abe's greatest gift of all." Emma then looks back at the spot, "He can see the monsters."

Once Miss. Peregrine arrived at the house, Jake and Y/n wanted to talk to understand what was happening. Miss. Peregrine took them to the Living Room so Jake and Y/n could have a seat.

"We called them Hollowgast. Hollows for short." Miss. Peregrine shortly explained.

"Our grandpa told me about people who turn into monsters. Is what they are?" Jake asks.

"I will explain everything. I fear it's my duty now, considering. But you both should know that in doing so, I'm breaking solemn promises." Miss. Peregrine focuses her attention on Jake. "I knew you were peculiar when you were born. But your grandfather forbid me to tell you anything. His dearest wish was for you to have an ordinary childhood."
