Chapter 22

"Ok hold on!" I zipped up my dress and looked myself over in the mirror once again. I thought it would be a fun idea to go out to a fancy dinner with my parents and talk to them about some stuff. I grabbed my (new) purse and went downstairs.

"We have 20 minutes to get there." My dad said annoyed.

"Hard day at work?"

"You have no idea." I got into the back seat of the car.

"Well I hope you're both in a good mood over dinner."

"Why are we doing this anyways?" My mom asked.

"Because I thought it would be fun for us to get all dressed up and go to dinner."

"I just don't see why we couldn't do dinner at home."

"Because mom! I wanted to go out for a nice dinner. Stop being a suck." I rolled my eyes and slouched in my seat. I got out my phone and texted Cal.

'My parents are being such asses. They keep complaining about leaving the house.'

15 minutes later I got a reply from him saying 'lol' ... tonight was not my night. When we got to the restaurant they both calmed down a bit and once they each had a glass of wine in them they were back to normal.

"So..." I said. "I got in touch with my editor and we have a meeting next week to go over some of the rough stuff in my story."

"That's so exciting Hailey." Dad smiled at me and patted my arm.

"Yeah, and the publicist said that if I can come up with a good story I have a good chance to be a real author with like normal sized books, not just 50 pages."

"Is this why we came out tonight?" My mom asked.

"No. Actually I wanted to come out tonight as a family because of this." I reached into my bag and pulled out the ring box. I set it on the table and watched as my mom and dad both eyed it.

"Is this..." My mom said slowly reaching for the box. Her face light up when she opened it. "This is why you were asking about the ring today!" She showed my dad the box and he smiled so big it made my heart melt.

"When did this happen?" My dad asked.

"Monday..."

***FLASHBACK***

I was woken up by a knock on my door. I got off the couch and walked to the door; opening it I saw it was Calum.

"Hi." I smiled and rubbed my eyes.

"Hello sleepy head." He kissed my cheek and walked into my apartment.

"What brings you here?"

"I couldn't sleep and I wanted to see you."

"What time is it?"

"2:30 am."

"Cal what the hell? You left your house at 2:30 to come see me?"

"Yeah, I couldn't get you off my mind."

"What kind of things were you thinking of?" He drew in a big breath.

"Just about you, about how much I love you and how much I missed you when you were away."

"That's really sweet Calum." He took my hand and walked me to my couch and told me to sit down.

"I wanted to ask you something." I gulped.

"Ok... What is it?"

"I love you so much, you know that right?"

"Of course."

"Being in the studio and repeating all those lines about love and feelings; it's all about you. Every song, every word, when I'm not with you I hate it. I just want to be with you all the time Hailey. I have so much admiration and love for you, it hurts me. And I tell you everything and I'm not scared. There are no questions when I'm with you. No fears. All I know is that I love you so much I want to puke." He let out a breathy laugh while I was trying to hold back tears. "I want to be with you all the time. I want to share every moment with you. I want to share everything with you... from the laughs we share to kids. Will you please make me the luckiest guy in the world and marry me?" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring box.

"Calum..." I felt the tears running down my face. "Yes a million times yes. Yes infinity." I kissed him with everything I had in me.

***FLASHBACK OVER***

"Oh honey!!" My mom squealed. "Put it on!" She gave me the ring box and watched as I slide the ring on my finger. "Did he pick it out himself?"

"No. His mom went with him that day and helped him."

"I don't want you getting married ever but I'm glad you're going to go behind my back and marry Calum." My dad said.

"Me too." I said smiling.
