The evening air was filled with a subtle tension as the Gupta family gathered in their living room, waiting for the Raizadas to arrive. The weight of Nandini’s earlier call had left everyone on edge, wondering what serious matter needed to be discussed. Despite the unease, they made sure everything was perfect for their guests, hoping that whatever was about to unfold would bring good news.
The doorbell rang, and Aditi, who had been pacing nervously near the entrance, hurried to open the door. As she pulled the door open, she was greeted by the sight of the Raizada family standing on the doorstep, their expressions warm and welcoming. Nandini and Devendra held beautifully wrapped gifts in their hands, their smiles easing some of the tension that had been building.
“Namaste, Aditi beta,” Nandini greeted with a gentle smile. “May we come in?”
Aditi returned the smile, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. “Namaste, Aunty. Please, come in.”
As the Raizadas entered the house, Rajesh stepped forward to greet them, his earlier worries beginning to dissipate. The sight of the gifts reassured him that whatever was about to be discussed, it was likely to be a positive conversation.
“Welcome, welcome,” Rajesh said, shaking Devendra’s hand warmly. “Please, make yourselves comfortable.”
The families exchanged pleasantries, their earlier concerns momentarily forgotten as they settled into the living room. The atmosphere, though still tinged with a hint of tension, was more relaxed as they all greeted each other warmly.
After everyone had exchanged greetings and settled into their seats, Devendra cleared his throat, his expression turning more serious. “Rajesh ji, Daadi ji, Nandini and I would like to have a private conversation with you both, if that’s alright. Could we ask the children to step upstairs for a little while?”
Aditi’s brows furrowed slightly in surprise, but she quickly composed herself, sensing the gravity of the situation. “Of course, Uncle,” she replied, standing up to lead the way. “Come on, everyone, let’s head to the rooftop. We can have some snacks and talk up there.”
As the children began to make their way upstairs, Arnav, who had been quietly observing the room, suddenly reached out and gently grasped Khushi’s hand, stopping her in her tracks. The unexpected touch sent a jolt of surprise through Khushi, and she turned to look at him, her heart skipping a beat.
“You didn’t say hi again,” Arnav said, his voice low and teasing, as he held her gaze.
Khushi’s eyes narrowed slightly in confusion and frustration. “Why do you always ask that?” she replied, her voice a mixture of curiosity and irritation.
Arnav’s expression softened, and he took a small step closer, closing the distance between them. “Because you never say hi to me,” he replied, his tone more serious now, his eyes locking onto hers.
Khushi instinctively took a step back, trying to maintain some space between them, but she found herself trapped between Arnav and the stair wall. Her breath caught as she realized just how close they were, her heart pounding in her chest. There was a charged silence between them, and for a moment, it felt as though the world had narrowed to just the two of them.
Arnav’s gaze was intense, and Khushi could feel the heat of it. She opened her mouth to say something, anything, to break the tension, but the words wouldn’t come. The proximity, the intensity of the moment, left her flustered and unable to think clearly.
Just then, the sound of Karan’s loud laughter echoed up the stairs, breaking the spell. Khushi blinked, coming back to her senses, and she quickly turned her gaze away, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. “Let me go, Arnav,” she whispered, her voice shaky. “Someone might come.”
