The evening had arrived, and Khushi found herself pacing in her room, her heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nerves. It was her first date with Arnav, and despite the casual setting—a simple movie night—she couldn’t shake the butterflies in her stomach. She had chosen a simple yet elegant outfit, a soft pastel kurta paired with jeans, something comfortable yet stylish. Her hair was left down in loose waves, and she had applied just a touch of makeup, enough to highlight her natural beauty.

Downstairs, Arnav was already waiting in the living room, his usual composed self, but with a hint of anticipation in his eyes. He had decided on a casual look for the evening—a dark blue shirt paired with jeans, perfect for a laid-back movie date. He had chosen the movie carefully, knowing that Khushi enjoyed action films, and hoped that the choice would help ease any awkwardness between them as they continued to get to know each other.

As he waited, Payal entered the room, her face lighting up with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Arnav Bhaiya, it’s been so long since I went to the movies. I’m really excited to join you both tonight.”

Arnav’s expression remained neutral, but his tone was firm as he replied, “Payal, I’m sorry, but this is a date night for Khushi and me. You won’t be able to join us.”

Payal’s smile faltered, and she opened her mouth to protest, but before she could say anything, Siya, who had spent the day at the Guptas, walked into the room. Sensing the tension, she quickly intervened, her tone light and playful. “Payal didi, why don’t you join Karan Bhaiya and me? We’re planning to watch a movie at home. You wouldn’t want to disturb the new couple, right?”

Payal hesitated, her eyes flickering between Arnav and Siya, but before she could refuse, Daadi entered the room and nodded in agreement with Siya. “That’s a good idea, Payal. Let Arnav and Khushi have some time to themselves.”

Reluctantly, Payal had no choice but to agree. She forced a smile and said, “Alright, I guess that makes sense. Have a good time, you two.”

Just as the situation diffused, Khushi descended the stairs, her heart skipping a beat as she saw Arnav waiting for her. She gave him a nervous smile, and he returned it with a reassuring one of his own.

As they left the house and made their way to the car, Khushi’s nerves began to ease, though they still lingered just beneath the surface. Arnav opened the car door for her, and she slid into the passenger seat, her hands fidgeting with her dupatta.

Once Arnav was seated behind the wheel, he noticed that Khushi hadn’t fastened her seatbelt. Without a word, he leaned over and reached for the seatbelt, clicking it into place with practiced ease. The sudden closeness took Khushi by surprise, and she froze, her heart pounding as his arm brushed against her.

Her mind went blank, and when she finally managed to speak, her words came out in a stutter. “Th-thank you… I-I mean, I could have done it…”

Arnav chuckled softly, his gaze lingering on her for a moment longer than necessary before he pulled back. “I know you could have, but I wanted to.”

Khushi’s cheeks flushed, and she quickly turned her attention to the road ahead, trying to steady her racing heart. The drive to the theatre was filled with light conversation, and by the time they arrived, Khushi was beginning to feel more at ease.

The movie was an action-packed thriller, and as the lights dimmed and the film began, Khushi found herself engrossed in the story. Arnav, too, enjoyed the film, but every now and then, he would glance at Khushi, amused by her reactions to the more intense scenes. There was something endearing about the way she would gasp or grip the armrest during particularly suspenseful moments.

By the time the credits rolled, Khushi was buzzing with excitement, her earlier nerves completely forgotten. As they left the theatre, she couldn’t stop talking about the movie, her enthusiasm infectious.

“That was so good!” Khushi exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. “I love how the plot kept twisting and turning. Did you see that part where—”

Arnav smiled, listening to her animated chatter as they made their way back to the car. “I did. I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

The drive back to the Gupta mansion was relaxed, the conversation flowing easily between them. When they arrived, Arnav walked Khushi to the door, the evening air cool and crisp around them. They stood there for a moment, neither quite ready to say goodbye.

As Khushi reached for her keys, she absentmindedly lifted her hand, and Arnav’s eyes caught sight of the letter “A” in her mehndi. His curiosity piqued, he gently took her hand, his touch sending a jolt of warmth through her.

“What’s this?” he asked, his voice soft as he traced the letter with his thumb. “An ‘A’ in your mehndi?”

Khushi’s breath hitched, and she felt her face grow warm. “Oh, that… It’s just… Anjali Bhabi said I should get an ‘A’ instead of a ‘K’ because… because I’m a bride-to-be now…”

Her explanation came out in a rush, her words tumbling over each other as she tried to keep her composure. But the closeness between them, combined with Arnav’s intense gaze, made it impossible for her to think straight.

Seeing her flustered, Arnav couldn’t resist teasing her a little more. He stepped closer, his hand still holding hers, and before she could react, he leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her cheek.

“Goodnight, Khushi,” he murmured, his voice low and filled with warmth.

Khushi’s eyes widened in shock, her heart pounding so loudly she was sure he could hear it. She stood frozen, unable to speak or move as Arnav pulled back, a satisfied smile playing on his lips.

With a final nod, Arnav turned and walked back to his car, leaving Khushi standing at the door, her mind reeling from the unexpected kiss. She touched her cheek where his lips had been, her thoughts a whirlwind of confusion and surprise.

As she watched him drive away, Khushi finally let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. The night had taken a turn she hadn’t anticipated, and as she slowly made her way inside, she couldn’t help but wonder what other surprises lay ahead.
