As expected, just as Ye Zexi and He Jinyun had predicted, the director led the four guests to a dock.
When they saw a yacht, everyone immediately realized that things might not be as simple as they seemed.
When the director pulled out two maps, Wei Bei dramatically waved his hand at the group and exclaimed, "So much for a laid-back variety show—now we're doing a jungle adventure! Forget this show, I'm out!"
Of course, leaving wasn't really an option.
They'd already signed the contracts.
Since Ye Zexi and He Jinyun had completed their task first the previous day, they were given the advantage of boarding the island first.
The boat ride to the island took half an hour, which meant Wei Bei and You Jia would be thirty minutes behind the others.
Once on the yacht, the production team handed the two of them the prepared map. Ye Zexi laid the map out between them, and He Jinyun leaned in to examine it as well.
With the two of them so close, Ye Zexi could distinctly smell the faint scent of He Jinyun's cologne. Unable to resist, Ye Zexi turned his head slightly to glance at He Jinyun. The sharp lines of the man's profile—his high nose bridge, deep-set eyes—looked especially striking as he concentrated on the map.
And, he's really handsome, Ye Zexi thought.
Noticing Ye Zexi's gaze, He Jinyun turned slightly and asked, "What's up? Did you find something?"
Ye Zexi quickly averted his gaze and shook his head. "No." After a pause, he continued, "I'm just curious why the production team didn't tell us in advance what dishes we'll need to prepare tomorrow."
He Jinyun frowned slightly, immediately understanding Ye Zexi's point.
"So, not only do we need to gather ingredients as soon as possible, but we also need to collect as many varieties as we can," He Jinyun said. "Just in case tomorrow's dish requires something we don't have."
Ye Zexi nodded. That was exactly what he'd been thinking. Communicating with He Jinyun was always easy—he didn't even need to explain things in detail for He Jinyun to understand.
However, as well as they had planned, when they arrived on the island, they quickly realized that gathering ingredients wasn't as simple as they'd thought.
For instance, the first task seemed promising—it was labeled "seafood." But after they completed the challenge, the staff handed them a fishing net and a fishing rod.
Ye Zexi looked bewildered. "Wait, we have to catch the fish ourselves?"
The staff smiled brightly. "Yes, that's right!"
Ye Zexi was tempted to throw the fishing rod on the ground right then and there.
He Jinyun, clearly surprised by the twist, had a complicated expression on his face.
It was becoming obvious that the production team had set up plenty of traps for them.
By this time, Wei Bei and You Jia had arrived on the island and quickly joined them to ask about the situation. Ye Zexi gave them a quick rundown.
"So, you're saying that some of the tasks won't give us ingredients, but tools instead?" Wei Bei asked.
"Good question," a staff member said, grinning. "Some tasks will provide ingredients, but others will give you tools."
Everyone's thoughts at that moment: Damn this production team.
Ye Zexi: "..."
He really, really wanted to smash the fishing rod.
And it wasn't just him—the others felt exactly the same.
After thinking for a moment, He Jinyun said, "There are over fifty tasks on the island. It's already 9 a.m., and even if we didn't rest at all, it's impossible to complete all fifty in one day."
Ye Zexi nodded. The production team had really set up a tricky challenge.
Their gazes met briefly before Ye Zexi suddenly had an idea. He turned to the staff member beside them. "One more question. Are all the tasks going to be mini-games or trivia?"
The staff member nodded. "Yes, they are."
A slow smile spread across Ye Zexi's face as he looked at He Jinyun.
Understanding his intent, He Jinyun smiled and turned to the now-anxious Wei Bei and You Jia. "Let's team up."
Wei Bei and You Jia hadn't expected that.
Right—who said they had to fall into the production team's traps?
You want us to go fishing? Dream on.
So, instead of staying split into two teams, the guests regrouped and divided the fifty tasks among themselves to complete them faster.
Even the production team hadn't anticipated that their difficult challenge would be so easily overcome by the guests.
By noon, they had already completed thirty-five of the fifty tasks, leaving only fifteen for the afternoon—a perfectly manageable amount.
As for the items they'd collected? Fishing gear, fresh seafood, various seasonings, and vegetables—everything they could need.
The production team: "..."
It seemed they had been outsmarted! What a miscalculation.
