When Ye Zexi first received a call from He Xiu, he was taken aback. His understanding of He Xiu was limited to a few simple descriptions from He Jinyun, and he knew that their relationship was strained, with father and son not having seen each other in a long time.
So, when He Xiu suggested a meeting, Ye Zexi hesitated for a moment. However, he quickly nodded in agreement, realizing that it might be better to clear the air now rather than later. More importantly, he felt there were things that needed to be addressed beforehand.
As for why he hadn't informed He Jinyun, it was simply because Ye Zexi believed he could handle the situation on his own. He also sensed that He Xiu preferred it that way.
When the private room door opened, Ye Zexi spotted He Xiu. For a brief moment, he was taken aback.
Recently, Ye Zexi had visited the UK and met Zhuang Lan. He hadn't noticed much resemblance between mother and son, but they both exhibited a similar gentleness in their interactions.
At that time, Ye Zexi had wondered who He Jinyun resembled. Now, looking at He Xiu, it was clear.
He Jinyun and He Xiu bore an uncanny resemblance; calling them two peas in a pod would not be an exaggeration. However, He Jinyun's features were softer, lacking the sharpness and coldness that characterized He Xiu's appearance. When He Xiu wasn't smiling, his eyes carried an air of detachment and scrutiny.
"Here?" He Xiu lifted his gaze, giving Ye Zexi a cursory glance. "Sit down and let's talk."
Ye Zexi quickly regained his composure and offered a faint smile. "Hello, Uncle He."
The restaurant had a classic decor. After greeting He Xiu, Ye Zexi found a seat.
He Xiu pushed the menu towards him. "See if there's anything you like."
Not one to be polite, Ye Zexi took the menu and ordered several of his favorite dishes. Soon, the food arrived.
"Let's eat first," He Xiu said.
Ye Zexi nodded, realizing he was indeed hungry. Although the day's filming hadn't been exhausting, he had saved his appetite for the small fried dried fish that He Jinyun had promised to make for dinner. Now, he was genuinely hungry.
Fortunately, He Xiu didn't seem interested in chatting during the meal, allowing Ye Zexi to enjoy his food without distraction.
Once they finished eating, the waiter returned to ask if they wanted dessert or fruit. Ye Zexi wasn't interested in fruit, but upon learning about a specialty fried dried fish dish, he ordered some.
He Xiu simply requested a pot of tea.
When He Xiu heard Ye Zexi's order, he looked up, a hint of curiosity in his gaze.
Ye Zexi met his eyes, puzzled by the scrutiny.
He Xiu took a sip of tea before asking, "Do you really like fish that much?"
Ye Zexi hadn't expected He Xiu to pick up on his preference after just one meal. He smiled and nodded. "Yes, fish is particularly appealing to me."
He Xiu nodded thoughtfully before saying, "Well, you and he are the opposite; he dislikes fish."
It took Ye Zexi a couple of seconds to realize that "he" referred to He Jinyun. His brow furrowed slightly as he recalled his time with He Jinyun. After a moment, he pursed his lips, skeptical. "Is that so?"
At that moment, He Xiu's gaze sharpened, filled with scrutiny and a touch of disdain. "You've been together for so long, and you still don't know his preferences?"
