His tone carried a hint of accusation.

Ye Zexi's smile faded as he met He Xiu's gaze calmly. "I don't claim to know all of He Jinyun's likes and dislikes, but I wouldn't say I know nothing about him either. One thing I can say for sure is that when we're together, he does eat fish."

In fact, he often fought for his share!

Unless He Jinyun found it satisfying to steal fried dried fish from him, there was no other explanation for why he enjoyed it so much when they ate together.

He Xiu dismissed Ye Zexi's comment as mere bravado.

The waiter entered again, bringing the fried dried fish to the table. The golden, crispy fish lay before Ye Zexi, but he felt no desire to dig in.

Once the door closed and the room fell quiet again, He Xiu resumed the conversation. "Zexi, I know both you and your father well. You've always been a good kid."

Ye Zexi looked up at He Xiu, guessing where the conversation was heading. Lacking patience, he interjected, "So, Uncle He, are you here to tell me to break up with He Jinyun?"

He Xiu clasped his hands, avoiding a direct answer. "You're a smart kid, so you must understand that there are many people in this society who don't accept your unconventional relationship."

"Breaking up sooner rather than later would be a wise choice for both you and He Jinyun," He Xiu said. "Of course, I know that young people like a bit of excitement. Once the novelty wears off, I believe you both will..."

"Wait." Ye Zexi had intended to hear more, but he could no longer tolerate He Xiu's words.

"Uncle He, do you think I'm just playing around with He Jinyun?" Ye Zexi countered.

He Xiu didn't respond directly, instead looking at Ye Zexi. "After all, you and He Jinyun will eventually inherit the family business, right? He Jinyun has long had a partner in mind, and I assume your father wants you to get married too?"

Ye Zexi couldn't help but laugh in anger; his patience had run dry.

"So, are you planning to have your son get divorced early, just like you?" With his politeness gone, Ye Zexi spoke bluntly.

He Xiu's expression shifted, revealing a hint of vulnerability. "You..."

"What's wrong?" Ye Zexi pressed on. "Do you really think that to this day, you can convince yourself that Auntie Zhuang and you divorced out of a moment of anger?"

He Xiu's brow furrowed. "What are you trying to imply? My marriage is something you, a younger generation, can judge?"

"I'm not pointing fingers; I just want to say that you're quite arrogant," Ye Zexi stood up, looking down at the man before him who bore a striking resemblance to He Jinyun.

Initially, he had thought of this man as He Jinyun's father and felt compelled to show some respect. But now, Ye Zexi realized how naive that thought had been.

Respect is mutual. Why should he respect someone who clearly had no intention of respecting him?

Meeting with a pompous man who sought to meddle in others' personal lives had been a mistake from the start. It was not only a waste of time but also a drain on his mood.

At this point, He Xiu's expression darkened significantly. "Is this how you speak to your elders? I didn't come here to argue. I'm here to ensure you break up with He Jinyun. I hope you understand the gravity of the situation."

Ye Zexi scoffed, raising a finger. "First, I have no intention of breaking up with He Jinyun. Second, my father is nothing like you; he supports my choices and doesn't care who I want to marry."

He Xiu's face grew increasingly grim. "What are you trying to say..."

"Lastly," Ye Zexi interrupted, showing no inclination to answer, "I don't see you as an elder, so I won't respect you. I suggest you take care of yourself."

With that, he pulled out a chair, grabbed his hat and sunglasses, and turned to leave.

He Xiu's expression turned sour, and without thinking, he shot up from his seat. "Stop! We're not done here..."

At that moment, He Jinyun pushed the door open, radiating coldness. His eyes, frosty and sharp, swept over He Xiu. "What's there to discuss with you?"

He Xiu was taken aback, not expecting He Jinyun to arrive.

Ye Zexi was equally surprised by He Jinyun's sudden appearance. He blinked, his beautiful eyes widening. "What are you doing here?"

He Jinyun glanced at him, annoyance evident as he grasped Ye Zexi's hand tightly. "We'll settle this later."

He Jinyun's hand felt cool, yet a thin layer of sweat was present in his palm. Ye Zexi sensed something and didn't resist as He Jinyun led him out of the room.
