Shadows of October
The chill of October hung in the air, crisp and electric. Shadows stretched long and deep as the setting sun painted the city in hues of orange and violet. Oroku Saki, the feared Shredder, stood silently on the rooftop of his lair, gazing out over the cityscape. Beside him was his partner, a tall and slender figure with obsidian-black skin and glowing violet eyes—an Enderman, unique even in the strangest of Shredder’s encounters.
The Enderman—whom Saki lovingly called Y/N—shifted nervously, clutching his long, clawed fingers together. Tonight was meant to be an enjoyable one; Shredder had promised they’d spend the evening blending into the human world, a rare treat for them both. But the decorations dotting the city streets filled Y/N with unease.
“They’re everywhere,” Y/N muttered, his deep voice tinged with a faint crackle, like static in the air. His glowing eyes locked on the pumpkins grinning malevolently from windowsills, doorsteps, and store displays.
Shredder turned to him, his crimson eyes narrowing in concern. “The pumpkins? You are still frightened of them?”
Y/N nodded, his teleporting ability faltering as he nervously jittered from foot to foot. “They’re unnatural. The faces… They watch me.”
A rare smile tugged at the corners of Shredder’s mouth. “They are carved by children, Y/N. They are harmless. Tonight, I will show you there is nothing to fear.”
Y/N crossed his arms, his towering frame hunched slightly. “If you say so…”
Shredder gestured toward the edge of the roof. “Come. Let us see this night for what it is—a celebration. I will not let fear hold you captive.”
The City Streets
The streets buzzed with life as families and friends strolled in costume, laughter ringing through the air. Children ran between houses, their buckets overflowing with candy. Y/N followed closely behind Shredder, his tall frame earning a few curious glances from passersby. With his natural shadowy aura, most assumed his appearance was a well-crafted costume.
Shredder, clad in a more subdued version of his armor—no helmet, no blades—walked with a confidence that drew attention yet kept others at bay. “See?” he said, gesturing to the festive streets. “Nothing here can harm you.”
Y/N hesitated as they passed a yard filled with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. Their carved faces seemed to leer at him, their candlelit eyes flickering with mockery. He instinctively stepped closer to Shredder, his normally confident demeanor faltering.
Shredder stopped and placed a hand on Y/N’s arm. “Look at me, Y/N,” he said firmly. “You are powerful, capable of moving through dimensions and striking fear into your enemies. Do you truly believe these hollow gourds pose a threat?”
Y/N looked down at Shredder, his glowing eyes conflicted. “It’s irrational, I know. But they remind me of… home. The ones who hunted me used carved faces to trick and trap my kind.”
Understanding softened Shredder’s expression. “Then tonight, we will face them together. You will see that their power over you is an illusion.”
Trick-or-Treating
As the evening wore on, Shredder led Y/N through the neighborhood, encouraging him to participate in the tradition of trick-or-treating. At first, Y/N was reluctant, his teleporting instincts threatening to whisk him away whenever a pumpkin decoration loomed too close. But Shredder’s unwavering presence kept him grounded.
At one house, a small child dressed as a ninja handed Y/N a piece of candy. “Cool costume!” the child said, grinning up at him.
Y/N blinked, surprised. “Thank… you,” he said, his voice low and cautious.
Shredder chuckled softly. “See? Even the children are not afraid of you. Perhaps you can learn from them.”
Gradually, Y/N began to relax, his fear giving way to curiosity. He marveled at the variety of costumes and decorations, his glowing eyes alight with wonder. Shredder watched him with a rare sense of pride, pleased to see his partner conquering his fears.
When they reached a house with a particularly elaborate display—a dozen pumpkins arranged in a menacing tableau—Y/N froze. Shredder stepped forward, his hand outstretched. “Come. Face them with me.”
Y/N hesitated, his claws twitching nervously. But the steady confidence in Shredder’s gaze gave him the courage to step forward. Together, they approached the display, and Y/N forced himself to study the pumpkins closely.
“They’re… just vegetables,” he said slowly, his voice tinged with amazement. “They can’t hurt me.”
Shredder nodded. “Precisely. You see now that your fear is unfounded.”
A Night to Remember
By the end of the night, Y/N was fully immersed in the spirit of Halloween. He even allowed a group of children to pose for photos with him, much to their delight. Shredder watched from the sidelines, a faint smile gracing his lips.
As they made their way back to the lair, Y/N turned to Shredder. “Thank you, Saki. I don’t think I could have faced this night without you.”
Shredder placed a hand on Y/N’s shoulder, his crimson eyes meeting Y/N’s glowing ones. “You are stronger than you realize, Y/N. Fear is a powerful enemy, but it is one we can overcome—together.”
For the first time in years, Y/N felt a sense of peace. The pumpkins no longer held power over him, and he owed it all to the man who had stood by his side, unwavering in his support. Together, they had turned a night of terror into one of triumph.
And as they disappeared into the shadows, the city’s festive glow fading behind them, Y/N knew he had nothing to fear—not as long as Oroku Saki was by his side.
