Haunted Currents
The moon’s pallid glow reflected off the murky water of New York City's East River, painting the scene in shades of silver and shadow. Xever Montes, better known as Fishface, slithered along the riverbank, his cybernetic legs clicking softly against the concrete. The night's mission—a reconnaissance for Shredder—was uneventful, leaving him to brood in solitude. He had no intention of staying longer than necessary, but something unusual caught his eye—a glimmer in the water.
Curiosity piqued, Xever crouched by the edge, his gills fluttering slightly as he fished the object out. It was a necklace, simple yet elegant, with a locket dangling from its delicate chain. The locket opened easily, revealing a faded photo of a young man smiling softly.
"Strange," Xever muttered to himself. "What are you doing down here, little trinket?"
Unbeknownst to him, the moment he clasped the necklace in his webbed hand, a faint shimmer rippled through the air. A cold presence settled behind him, and the faint sound of dripping water echoed in his ears despite the dry surroundings.
"That... belongs to me."
Xever spun around, his sharp teeth bared and eyes wide. Standing before him was a translucent figure, glowing faintly in the moonlight. The man—if he could still be called that—wore an expression of deep sorrow. His clothes were damp and tattered, as if he'd just emerged from the river.
"Who—what—?" Xever stammered, instinctively gripping the locket tighter.
The ghost raised his hands, an attempt at a calming gesture. "I’m Y/N. And that necklace is mine."
Xever narrowed his eyes, skepticism flashing across his face. "I don't believe in ghosts."
Y/N’s expression turned wistful, his gaze shifting to the locket. "You will. Because now that you’ve touched it, we’re bound."
A chill ran down Xever’s spine as the words settled over him. "Bound?"
"You picked up my necklace," Y/N explained, his voice calm yet tinged with sadness. "Until it’s returned to where it belongs, I’m tethered to you."
Xever growled in frustration, feeling as though fate had played a cruel joke on him. "Fine. Take it back!" He thrust the necklace toward Y/N, only for it to pass harmlessly through the ghost’s incorporeal form.
Y/N looked apologetic. "It doesn’t work that way. You’ll have to take me with you—for now."
Xever scowled but saw no other option. “Great. Just what I needed. A haunting.”

Back at Shredder's lair, the ghostly presence drew attention immediately. As Xever walked in, Y/N floated behind him, his ethereal glow illuminating the dark corridors.
"Xever," Bradford, his longtime rival, drawled, stepping into their path. "What's this? A new pet?"
Xever clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Don’t start, Bradford. It’s not what it looks like."
Y/N, despite his spectral state, felt a pang of unease at the tension between the mutants. He remained silent, observing their dynamics as Xever retreated to his quarters.
Once inside the confines of his room, Xever let out an exasperated sigh and flopped onto his makeshift bed. Y/N hovered near the corner, his presence faintly illuminating the space.
“So, ghost boy,” Xever began, his tone sharp but less hostile than before. “What’s your story? Why are you haunting me?”
Y/N hesitated, his form flickering slightly. “I’m not haunting you. I didn’t choose this.” His voice softened. “I... I jumped. Off that bridge by the river. And the necklace fell off during the fall. It’s all I had left of my life before…”
