The excitement gradually settled, the group began to gather around the dessert table, the aroma of freshly baked treats filling the air. Arizona carefully set out Lexie’s special dairy-free cupcakes alongside the other sweets. Lexie, however, was still in a daze, her eyes locked on the beautiful ring glistening on her finger.
Mark leaned in close, his hand gently brushing her cheek. “You okay, Alexandra Caroline Sloan?” he whispered, the use of her full name drawing her attention back to him.
She let out a soft laugh, her eyes welling up again. “I’m more than okay. I’m just… still trying to process everything. You really pulled it off.”
“I’ve been planning this since the day we got off that plane,” Mark admitted, his voice low but filled with emotion. “Every day since, I’ve been thinking about how I almost lost you. And every day, I’ve been more sure that I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Lexie’s breath hitched, and she blinked back fresh tears. “You really mean that?”
Mark nodded, his hand finding hers, fingers intertwining. “More than anything. You’re my everything, Lex. My reason for fighting through every hard moment. I never want to go through life without you by my side.”
As their moment deepened, the others couldn’t help but watch from a respectful distance, still caught up in the romance of it all. Meredith exchanged a knowing smile with Derek, who had just returned from collecting his winnings.
“Looks like you were right,” Meredith said softly, nudging Derek.
“Of course I was,” Derek replied with a smirk. “Mark wouldn’t let Christmas go by without making this happen. He’s too sentimental for that.”
Meanwhile, April and Jackson were leaning against the wall, sharing a quiet laugh at Callie’s over-the-top celebration of her victory in the bet. “You’d think she won the lottery,” Jackson joked.
“She kind of did,” April replied with a grin. “She’s got bragging rights until New Year’s.”
As dessert was served, the group gradually made their way back to the living room, where a classic holiday movie played softly in the background. Lexie and Mark settled onto the couch together, their hands still linked, while the others found their spots around the room.
Arizona raised her glass, a warm smile on her face. “To Mark and Lexie,” she began, her voice full of affection. “May your life together be filled with as much love and laughter as this room is tonight.”
Everyone joined in, raising their glasses in unison. “To Mark and Lexie!”
As the night continued, laughter and stories filled the air, the kind of warmth that only comes from being surrounded by the people who matter most. And through it all, Lexie couldn’t stop smiling, her heart full of love and gratitude.
With desserts finished and everyone comfortably sprawled across the living room, the group decided it was time to settle in for some holiday movies. Derek grabbed the remote, flipping through a streaming service as everyone shouted suggestions.
“Home Alone!” Alex called out, earning a chorus of agreement.
“No way,” Callie argued. “We’ve seen that one a million times. Elf is the way to go.”
Mark leaned back on the couch, his arm draped around Lexie. “I’m with Callie. You can’t beat Will Ferrell in tights.”
“Die Hard,” Cristina said flatly, arms crossed. “It’s a Christmas classic. And before anyone says it, yes, it is a Christmas movie.”
