The morning after the wedding, the house was quiet—well, as quiet as it could be with two little girls giggling in the living room. Sunlight streamed through the windows as Mark Sloan stretched out in bed, blinking awake to the sight of his wife—Alexandra Coraline Grey-Sloan—still curled up beside him, her dark hair spilling over the pillow.
His wife.
Damn, he liked the sound of that.
Mark smirked, leaning over to press a kiss to Lexie’s bare shoulder. “Morning, Mrs. Grey-Sloan,” he murmured against her skin.
Lexie groaned, burying her face deeper into the pillow. “Too early,” she mumbled. “Not moving.”
Mark chuckled, wrapping an arm around her waist. “You’re telling me you’re going to sleep through the first morning of married life? After all that hype?”
Lexie peeked one eye open. “I married you. I deserve to sleep in.”
Before Mark could argue, the sound of little feet pattering down the hall was followed by Sofia and Zola bursting into the room.
“Wake up!” Sofia squealed, climbing onto the bed. “We want breakfast!”
Lexie groaned dramatically as Zola scrambled up next to her, patting her arm. “Auntie Lexie, we’re hungry.”
Mark laughed, sitting up and ruffling Sofia’s hair. “Alright, alright, give us a second, and we’ll get some food going.”
Lexie sighed but smiled, finally sitting up and stretching. “Fine. But Mark’s cooking. I’m still on my honeymoon mindset.”
Mark smirked. “Honeymoon doesn’t start until the plane takes off, babe.”
Lexie just grinned and flopped back onto the pillows. “Then I’m starting early.”
Zola giggled, climbing up beside her. “Aunt Lexie, Uncle Mark, come eat with us!”
Lexie groaned dramatically, burying her face in the pillow again. “Betrayed by breakfast.”
Mark laughed, sitting up and pulling Sofia into his lap. “Pancakes, huh? Who made them?”
“Uncle Derek!” Sofia announced proudly. “And Aunt Meredith said we could have extra syrup because it’s a special day.”
Lexie finally lifted her head, raising an eyebrow. “That sounds suspicious.”
Zola nodded solemnly. “Mommy says it’s your ‘honeymoon breakfast,’ but I think it’s just pancakes.”
Mark smirked, glancing down at Lexie. “Guess we better get up before Derek burns the kitchen down.”
With a resigned sigh, Lexie stretched and sat up. “Fine, fine. But I’m wearing pajamas to breakfast.”
Sofia grinned. “Me too!”
Mark scooped Sofia up and tossed her over his shoulder playfully, making her squeal with laughter as Zola ran ahead, leading the way downstairs. Lexie stretched lazily before finally getting out of bed, slipping on one of Mark’s old t-shirts over her pajama shorts.“Come on, Mrs. Grey-Sloan,” Mark teased, wrapping an arm around her waist as they headed downstairs. “Can’t have our honeymoon breakfast without the guest of honor.”
As they stepped into the kitchen, the smell of pancakes filled the air. Derek stood at the stove, flipping a pancake with practiced ease, while Meredith leaned against the counter, sipping her coffee with an amused look.
“Ah, the newlyweds have finally emerged,” Meredith said with a smirk. “We were starting to think you’d sleep through the whole day.”
Lexie rolled her eyes, sliding into a chair at the table where Sofia and Zola were already digging into their plates. “Please, I’m just conserving my energy. We’ve got a long flight to Italy tonight.”
