Chapter 11: On The Road Again

Start from the beginning

And now, I'm with a human who doesn't have a problem with me and Sonic, and I found someone who's like me, both physically, and with similar problems as me. The thoughts made me sigh out of fascination and relief. 49 years of being alive, I thought that I would remain alone forever. But now I have two people to talk to. Even hoping to hang out with them. No matter how far apart we are from each other. Even a human, creatures who I thought I couldn't trust but still protect no matter what, have actually been okay with me and Sonic this entire time. I then wanted to break the silence.

I leaned forward to face Tom. "So Tom. What's on your bucket list?" Tom was probably not ready for a question like that, given his answer. "Me?" he said, not exactly sure how to answer it. "Yeah Tom, everyone has a bucket list, right?" Sonic commented as I nodded for an answer for him. "Well sure, but... I mean you're the one leaving earth and... I'm not planning on dying anytime soon." Tom answered the best he could. But Sonic wasn't so sure about it. "Ohoho don't be so sure! Your best friends are magnets for danger." What Sonic said got me to smile. Are we all finally friends now? But Tom Kinda ruined the moment. "Already anointing both of you as besties. A little presumptuous but, I mean I like the both of you, of course. But, you know, that doesn't mean we're friends." Sonic and I were surprised and frowned at that. Ever since the bar, I've considered both of these two as my friends.

Back when Tom was looking at the 'make a friend' wish of the bucket list when he showed it to me, I felt like he thought the same thing. "You tucked me in last night. And before you ask, Sora told me." Sonic spoke. I smirked at that last part. But Tom chuckled, cleary not sure how to answer that. "Well, what about best animal friends?" I asked. "That would be my dog, Ozzy." Tom answered. "Okay, let's all drop this humiliating conversation. Bucket list! Give it to us!" Sonic pleaded. Tom then gave an answer for us.

"Okay. there is one thing. In Green Hills, I've always felt... I don't know, more a babysitter, than a real cop. You know? So I want a chance to prove myself, under real pressure. I'm gonna move to San Francisco. Become a street cop. And, I don't know. See if I have what it takes." I nodded and thought about it. He sounds like he wants something more in his life, to truly help and be there for people. But Tom looked at sonic in a weird way. "What?" Tom asked.

"What's wrong?" I asked. I leaned forward and saw Sonic with a shock on his face. "Uhhh, Sonic? Are you okay?" I asked. He then spoke. "You're leaving Green Hills?!? Bu-bu-but why? Why would you leave Green Hills?!?" I didn't really know how to engage in this part of the conversation. Maybe it's best for them to work it out? "This may be hard for you to understand, but Green Hills is a small town. It's a really small town." Tom pointed out. But Sonic wasn't having it. "Uh, it's not small. There are hundreds of people!"

"Sonic, that is a small town." I stepped in. "But it's a perfect town, and the people need him!" Sonic pointed his arms to Tom. "Please, I clean out there gutters, I jump start their cars in the winter. They could call anybody to do that." Tom said. He did kind of made a good point there. "Sure they could call anybody but they don't. They call you." Tom began to ponder for a bit.

Sonic then rose from his seat, standing up with anger. "You're not making any sense!" he said angrily. Okay, this is starting to worry me now. Sure he was frustrated with Tom for trying to ditch us, but here, he is truly angry. "Sonic, just relax for a second." I knew he heard me, but he clearly doesn't care about that. "Would you calm down?" Tom said. "You come from a great town, with great people and by my count, zero bad guys trying to kill you!" Sonic continued. "Besides, what could possibly be more important than protecting the people you care about?" That got Tom to think for a moment.

While that was happening, I heard a loud revving sound outside my window, but it didn't sound like a motorcycle. I turned around to look outside to see what it was, and saw a black and white tank with a robotic eye at the center of the front. One of Robotnik's machines! It then launched a spear towards the truck! "INCOMING!!!" I yelled as I moved swiftly to the left side. The spear came crashing through the truck and impaled the radio that caused the two to jump and. "It's Robotnik. He's found us!" I yelled. Tom tried to swerve the truck around hoping to make the spear release us while I tried to pull on the cord. "You know what? I was wrong about you. You're not the Donut Lord at all! You're more like, the Jerk Lord!" Sonic said to Tom. "Now is the time, Sonic!/Have you noticed the harpoon stuck in our gas?!?" me and Tom yelled.
