Author's note: Guys I'm not ready for new year, I actually liked the number 2024, 2025 looks I dunno, I just don't like how it looks TT. Also unrelated, but Slimerancher 2 got an update two days ago and I entered my gamer era again and now I honestly dunno what to play first. But lucky for me, I got no social life so I can rot in my room all day >:]. Oh yeah and I'm secretly (well not anymore I suppose lol) working on some oneshots/short fics for yall so be ready for some on the side content. (no idea when I'll post em, but hopefully someday)

Ekko, still amused by your replies, shrugged and returned into the dancing stance you two were holding before your clumsy ass almost fell. If you wanted to continue, who was he to deny you the fun, in the end, he was the one who came up with it. You smiled and followed his lead, adjusting your hands on him into what you believed were the proper positions. But this time, it was you who moved their foot first, sliding it backwards, then letting your other leg to the same and continue to the side. The boy was a little jubilant at your new found confidence, but he didn't let it show much, instead he just nodded with that triumphant smile plastered on his lips and moved his feet too.

The two of you were both pleasantly surprised at how quickly you caught on the dance. Or maybe it was just really easy and there wasn't much to mess up, who knows. You were surprised because it was your first time doing anything dance related, but also because you were able to translate some of your fighting skills into it. Ekko on the other hand, was surprised because he himself didn't have much practice and experience in dancing, being the leader of Firelights and all, but with you, it seemed to be almost natural. Of course his expression and behaviour was as confident as ever, not giving you a single hint of the small doubt in the back of his mind. However, that doubt only continued to grow smaller and smaller as you two danced again and again. Your confidence also grew and you stopped keeping your eyes on your feet all the time, sparing Ekko a few moments of eye contact here and there as you subconsciously kept a smile on your face.

...
The gramophone continued to play the melody on repeat as the sound of it fell into background, drowned out by your and Ekko's voice. He made you stop dancing when you mastered it almost completely, something about it being late and that rest is also important. You didn't mind much, something about deep talks in the middle of the night on his balcony as the firelight bugs flew through the air above you, providing what little light there was, alongside the few weak moonlight rays, just felt so magical and peaceful and you couldn't quite pinpoint what exactly it was. Maybe the presence of the one person you actually felt somehow connected to, besides Vi, who didn't hesitate to abandon you for her sister. You didn't blame her for it, you knew what Pow- Jinx meant to her, it still stung a little though.
"What are you thinking about?"

The weight on your stomach shifted as Ekko turned his head to look at you. The two of you were now lying down on the wooden floor of the balcony, you were looking up at the glowing bugs while Ekko made a pillow out of your stomach and played with one of your hands. It did freak you out a little when he first put his head on you and grabbed your hand, but you settled down quickly and just let him do his thing. Maybe it wasn't such a big deal, because now that you thought back on it, you two always seemed to be close to each other, physically or mentally. You pushed yourself up a little with your one free hand, relying on your elbow to keep you supported as you gained a better view of him.
"Just life, I guess."
Ekko scoffed at your reply, but the look on his face told you he didn't really mean it in a bad way, he wouldn't be smiling like that if he did.

"You couldn't be more specific could you?"
He answered you with a sarcastic tone and closed his eyes, his head turning ever so slightly more into our body.
"I was just wondering how Vi's doing, you know after everything that happened on the bridge and all."
You added, giving Ekko the details he wanted, knowing that reminding him of the fight between him and Jinx wasn't the best idea probably, but he asked, so you answered. The smile on his lips wavered a little and he tightened his grip on your hand, yet all of that was gone in a second. He quickly returned to his relaxed expression and opened his eyes again, looking up at you.
"She's tough, she'll be fine."
The boy said, probably trying to reassure you, although you already knew what he told you, and he had to know that you knew too, so maybe he was reassuring himself more, than he was comforting you. You chuckled at his words and hummed a yes as a response, laying back down as your elbow started to ache a little, letting the hand that supported your weight relax.

"Do you ever regret not going with her and joining us instead?"
Ekko suddenly asked you, breaking the silence that fell on the two of you after you lied back down. His question threw you off, to be perfectly candid, this thought never even crossed your mind, so why was he thinking about it?
"Not really, I do miss her, she was my company for many years, but I don't think I'd change my decision if I got the chance. I'm happy here, happier than I ever was to be honest."
This time he hummed in response and gazed up at the bugs like you were doing. The boy stopped messing with your hand and instead he placed it on his chest, his own hand laid on top of yours.
"I still remember the day I first met you, you were standing on that ship with your gun, acting all badass and shit, and then you almost killed yourself. You made quite the impression."
