Scoldings
The classroom was quiet except for the sound of pens scratching against paper and the low, steady voice of Professor Yoongi explaining a complicated math equation on the board. It was another long lecture, and Park Jimin couldn't help but feel his mind wandering. His notebook was open in front of him, but instead of notes, it was filled with random doodles.
Jimin sighed and glanced at the clock. Still thirty minutes left of this torturous class. He leaned back in his chair and fiddled with his pen. He hadn't done his homework again, and the guilt was starting to settle in.
Last night, he and Taehyung had stayed up late talking about everything except schoolwork. Taehyung had convinced him that it wouldn't matter if he skipped his homework just once, but now, sitting here under Yoongi's watchful eyes, Jimin regretted it.
"Park Jimin."
Jimin froze at the sound of his name. His heart jumped as he slowly looked up to see Professor Yoongi staring directly at him. His sharp gaze made Jimin feel like he was shrinking in his seat.
"Yes, sir?"
Jimin asked, his voice small.
"Where is your homework?"
Yoongi's tone was calm, but there was a dangerous edge to it that made Jimin's stomach twist.
Jimin's face flushed. He could feel the stares of his classmates boring into him.
"I... I didn't do it,"
He admitted quietly.
The classroom fell silent. Jimin's words seemed to echo in the air, and he wished he could disappear.
"You didn't do it,"
Yoongi repeated, his voice colder now.
"This is the third time this month, Park Jimin. Do you think my class is a joke?"
"No, sir,"
Jimin mumbled, lowering his head.
"Then why are you treating it like one?"
Yoongi's voice grew louder, filled with frustration.
"If you can't take my class seriously, then why are you even here?"
Jimin felt his chest tighten. The sting of Yoongi's words was sharp, and his throat burned as he tried to hold back the tears that threatened to spill.
"I'm sorry,"
Jimin said softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Sorry doesn't cut it,"
Yoongi snapped.
"If you're too tired or too distracted to do the work, then leave my class. I have no time for students who can't even do the basics."
The words hit Jimin like a punch to the gut. His face burned with embarrassment as the whispers and snickers of his classmates reached his ears. He quickly stood up, gathering his books with shaky hands. He didn't dare look at Yoongi as he walked toward the door, his head down and his vision blurred with unshed tears.
The door closed behind him with a soft click, and Jimin leaned against the hallway wall. His chest heaved as he tried to keep the tears at bay, but it was no use. They spilled over, warm and unstoppable, leaving streaks down his flushed cheeks.
"Jimin?"
Jimin turned to see Taehyung walking down the hallway toward him. His best friend's usual bright expression was replaced with concern as he saw the state Jimin was in.
"Did Yoongi scold you again?"
Taehyung asked gently.
Jimin nodded, his throat too tight to speak.
Taehyung sighed and wrapped an arm around Jimin's shoulders, pulling him close. "It's okay," he said softly. "Don't let him get to you. He's always strict like that."
"But it's different with me,"
Jimin whispered, his voice trembling
"He's always harder on me than anyone else. It's like he hates me."
"He doesn't hate you,"
Taehyung said firmly. "Yoongi's just... intense. He probably doesn't even realize how harsh he's being."
Jimin shook his head, his tears still falling. "It doesn't matter. I'll never be good enough for him. No matter what I do, it's never enough."
Taehyung tightened his hold on Jimin, his voice soft and reassuring.
"You're more than enough, Jimin. Don't let his words make you feel otherwise. You're smart, hardworking, and amazing. If he can't see that, it's his loss."
Jimin sniffled and wiped his face with the sleeve of his sweater. "Thanks, Tae. You're the best."
Taehyung smiled, his usual brightness returning. "Of course I am. Now, come on. Let's get out of here. You don't need to sit in the hallway crying over someone like him."
Jimin let out a small laugh despite himself, and the two of them walked away together. But as they left, Jimin couldn't shake the feeling of Yoongi's cold gaze and harsh words. The professor always seemed to find a way to cut him down, yet Jimin couldn't stop himself from caring.
