Then I heard hurried footsteps.
"Rain!"
Therese and Kroft rushed toward us, their faces pale with shock.
Therese wrapped her arms tightly around me, pulling me into a hug, and Kroft followed, gripping my shoulder.
"You're okay... you're okay..." Therese whispered, though I could hear the tremble in her voice.
But then-
Khai swayed.
"Khai?" I barely breathed out her name before her knees buckled.
"Khai!"
She collapsed right in front of us.
Oh God.
I forgot.
She was shot.
Panic shot through me as I dropped beside her, my hands hovering uselessly over her body.
"No, no, no-Khai, stay with me!"
Blood.
There was blood seeping through her side.
Kroft cursed under his breath, immediately pulling off his jacket.
"Apply pressure! Now!" he barked, pressing the jacket against her wound.
"Paramedics!" Therese shouted toward the open warehouse doors, waving frantically.
One of Harold's men sprinted over, signaling the paramedics.
"Over here! We've got another one down!"
Everything blurred together-sirens wailing, voices shouting, boots pounding on the concrete.
The paramedics swarmed around Khai in seconds, checking her vitals.
"She's losing blood fast-let's move!" one of them shouted.
"Rain, we need to let them work!" Therese pulled me back, but I couldn't tear my eyes away from Khai.
Her face was so pale.
So still.
I couldn't lose her too.
Not after everything.
"Please..." I whispered.
The paramedics lifted Khai onto a stretcher, rushing her toward the ambulance.
And all I could do was stand there, trembling, watching them take her away.

Rain's POVThe ambulance sped off, sirens wailing, carrying Lucan and Khai to the hospital.
We didn't waste a second.
Kroft slammed his foot on the gas as we followed closely behind, the city lights blurring past us. My heart pounded so hard it felt like it might crack my ribs.
"Hang on, Khai..." I whispered to myself, staring blankly out the window.
Therese sat beside me, wringing her hands. Kroft's jaw was clenched, his grip on the steering wheel tight. No one said a word, the weight of everything suffocating the air in the car.
Finally, the towering building of Stanton Medical Hospital came into view.
As soon as Kroft screeched into the parking lot, we jumped out and ran through the automatic doors.
"Lucan Stanton and Khai Stanton-they were just brought in!" Kroft told the nurse at the front desk, breathless.
The nurse quickly checked the system.
