The group hurried through the dimly lit streets of New York, stopping in front of the store Gnarlak had suggested they check out.
As they stood in front of the shop window, a bag suddenly disappeared from a model's hand. Davina nudged Newt's arm, pointing to the floating handbag.
The group quickly ducked inside the store, hiding behind a cluster of Christmas decorations. The handbag hovered just inches above the floor, but there was no one in sight.
"Demiguise are fundamentally peaceful, but they can give a nasty tip if provoked," Newt whispered, trying not to alert the creature.
The Demiguise appeared, its long limbs gracefully climbing up a table. It gathered up some wrapped gifts and a few pieces of chocolate, carefully slipping them into the stolen handbag.
"Jacob, Queenie, head that way," Newt directed. Jacob and Queenie nodded and quietly moved left, making sure to avoid being predictable.
A distant screech echoed through the room, and Davina furrowed her brows.
"Was that the Demiguise?" Tina asked, looking at Newt and Davina.
Davina shook her head quickly. "No, they don't make that kind of noise."
Newt's expression changed, as if realizing something. "I think this is why the Demiguise is here," he whispered.
Davina followed the creature as it stopped in front of an open door, almost as though it was inviting them upstairs.

The group cautiously ascended the stairs, careful not to startle the shy creature. Newt gestured for them to stop when they reached the attic. The Demiguise slowed, its eyes scanning the ground as it set down the items it had taken.
