Bai Shuo was furious as he followed the trail of the strange presence, walking briskly with large strides. In no time, he arrived at the closest location—the bird garden.
Bai Shuo knew that Lingxi Wildlife Zoo had many birds, and he had even fed some of them before. These birds were relatively simple-minded—what was commonly said as “a gift is treated as kindness.” After feeding them once, they would warmly welcome him whenever he returned.
However, today he came in a very different mood, with a murderous expression on his face. One of the less intelligent birds, seeing its benefactor, flew over eagerly. But before it could even chirp, it was slapped away by its companion's wing, accompanied by a low murmur: “Do you want to die?”
The foolish bird, dazed from the slap, blinked and, realizing the dangerous aura emanating from Bai Shuo, trembled in shock. Its round body shuddered, and it backed away, completely still.
Bai Shuo’s expression darkened. He pushed open the door, his mood foul. He had only been gone for a few days, and yet a member of his kind had infiltrated Lingxi Wildlife Zoo!
Although the presence was weak and most likely harmless, easily crushed with a flick, Bai Shuo knew that the zoo was full of ordinary humans and animals. These bad things never had good intentions.
But what puzzled him was that despite having awakened for so long, he had never sensed any of his kind. He thought he was the last one left. So why, after he left the zoo for just a few days, had several weak presences suddenly appeared? And scattered in different parts of the zoo? It seemed as though someone had prepared for his absence.
He thought to himself, once he found whoever was behind this, he would pluck every single hair from that bastard.
With a fierce and unstoppable aura, Bai Shuo reached the birdhouse without any obstruction. It was strange—this area, which used to be a shared dormitory for the birds, now had a single room set up.
The familiar presence came from inside the room. Bai Shuo’s brows furrowed with menace as he reached for the door, which immediately fell off its frame with a loud bang.
“What’s this? Who dares to wreak havoc in my territory?” Bai Shuo’s voice was low and commanding, filled with a terrifying presence.
Inside the room, a small white fluffy bird tilted its head, falling into Bai Shuo's palm. Its little claws twitched for a moment.
Zhu Yu looked up, glanced at Bai Shuo, and then at the fallen door, her expression confused. "Bai Shuo, you..."
She had so many questions, like how Bai Shuo came back so quickly, why he knocked down the door, and what was going on, but before she could ask, Bai Shuo looked at her with a stunned expression. “Zhu Yu, what are you doing here?”
His gaze immediately fixed on the bird in her hand, and his eyes burned with intensity. "This isn't a bird from our zoo!"
Zhu Yu responded, "This bird came after you left... But Bai Shuo, you’re incredible! There are so many birds here at Lingxi Wildlife Zoo, and you recognize them all?"
Zhu Yu found it hard to believe. There were hundreds of birds in the bird garden, and they came and went, some preferring to stay in the zoo while others flew off to the mountains. She couldn’t possibly recognize every single bird, but Bai Shuo seemed to remember them all so clearly.
Bai Shuo paused for a moment, then his ears turned slightly red as his voice softened unconsciously. "Not really. I just have a good memory. Most of the birds here I remember."
Zhu Yu smiled slightly, teasing, "Are you the kind of person who never forgets what they see?"
Bai Shuo absentmindedly touched his ear. "Not really."
