Ch. 2

A heavy sigh can be heard, "So until then you're stuck with me." Is that such a bad thing Shadow? "Could be worse, I could be stuck with the faker." Uhh. "The faker?" I tilt my head curiously. 

"Sonic." I raise my brow confused before realizing they may have some sort of feud, especially now. "Ah right. He doesn't seem so bad though, but maybe it's because I don't know him personally.." 

Shadow's face allows a slight smile to appear, before turning back to face the portal. I let out a low hum in acknowledgment that he no longer seemed to want to talk about it. This was nice, finally having someone to talk to, even though I know it won't last forever. 

I noticed myself getting lost in a deep ocean of thought as I usually do, but all I could hear was the sound of him breathing, even his breath had such a presence, it was soft yet sharp. His ruby eyes do not move from the portal, waiting for any sign of life to show, he knew not to ask me to use my powers again, at least not right now. 

I could tell deep down he was caring, but I don't think he had good reason to show it to many. Mysterious man, but I like a good challenge, so we will see where this goes, Shadow. 

"Are you tired?" Good small talk, try not to make him suspicious, I haven't even seen him yawn a single time. He seems to be bright, well dark eyed and bushy-tailed. A low groan can be heard, "I am the ultimate life form, I don't get tired." He rolls his eyes before focusing yet again on the portal. 

Okay, a little rude, but that's a start, "The ultimate life form?" I giggle ever so slightly, he wasn't joking, as he turned to me, a harsh look clear across his face. "Sorry.. care to share?"

"No."

'Rude' I get it though, not much of a big sharing kind of guy, but we are stuck together for who knows how long. I look away rather quickly, my face flushing with embarrassment. "Well then, do you have any questions for me?" I rock back and forth, nervous for his response. 

"How do you have prism energy?" Ah, that's a good one, "And, what are your powers." I suck in a breath-holding it while pondering how I should share this information. "Well my story is a long one but since we aren't sharing a lot I'll give you the basics, the paradox Prisim and I are connected, its power is what made- well it's power and mine are shared and that means I have control of the shards in this space, I haven't been able to go thru the portals but I can also conjure wings with the shards, they aren't permanent since my energy has its limits as you have seen." 

I take a breath and continue, Shadow's eyes on me, meeting mine, which causes me to almost spill the whole trauma, but I hold my tongue, he wouldn't understand. "So when you touched me and your energy in a sense gave mine a boost, I was surprised that I could see anyone, I have never been able to. Your energy must be strong, and it's not like Sonics, be as it may, that you want to stay a mystery, I-I know there's more. Uhh, but I do know that, if the shard spaces no longer exist, there's a chance that.. neither will I." Tears threaten to pool over my eyes, I haven't been weak in front of anyone since.

"Y/N c'mon let's go!" My sister grins at me, I quickly get up from the table in our home, waving off our caregivers, my lovely sister, a couple of years older than me, with the most beautiful rainbow quills, her bright white eyes beaming at me, grabbing my little hand. 

"Wait for me sis I'm coming!" I grip her hand and run with her, as we step outside the door, we are met with the most beautiful place we have ever known, home. The purple crystals are everywhere, some sprouting purple trees with soft patches of white grass, lots of homes surround us as we run to some of the other homes, knocking on the door. 

Her friends were amazing, so sweet and kind-hearted. My sister was the kindest soul I ever knew. My bright little eyes greet her friends, a large smile plastered on everyone's faces, "Heyyy Y/N, Star, how was dinner?" The bunny asks softly as she bends down to give me a big hug, her light pink fur and bright blue and black eyes sparkled. 

"Good!" I state matter of factly, jumping up and down, my sister giggling lightly at my actions. I grab Cotton's hand, bringing her over to both of us.

"Hey Cotton, we tried to knock on Ember's door but of course he is busy, you know him and his machines." Star rolls her eyes and hugs Cotton when she stands up. I stare at the both, glad that they always included me even though I was quite young, "Lets see, I think I still know a back way to get in his house, for a guy who loves mechanics he has shi- "HEY" I jump to cover Cottons mouth, "Sissy said no potty words!" 

Laughter erupted between us all as we walked to Ember's home, rather a hut, but that's how he preferred it. Once we reach the home, Cotton quickly jumps up to one of the windows, rolling her shirt around her gloved fist as she smashes it through. I stare in awe as Star begins to laugh. 

"HEY WHAT THE HELL, COTTON?!" Ember's cracky voice could be heard from the room, "C'mon Ember we got stuff to do, bring whatever it is you're working on, and let's GOOO." Not long after both Cotton and Ember appeared through the front door, an aggravated expression spread on Ember's face with a small flush of pink when seeing Star. 

His brown and red fur was to die for, and his bright orange eyes glimmered in the moonlight. Cotton lightly nudged him before they met us, "Y/N, Star, good to see you guys." His gloved hand scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. 

"It's been a few days since we could all hang out, now to the hideout, you ready to go Y/N?" I nod excitedly, watching my sister extend her hand to me, before I knew it, Cotton and Star were swinging me between the two of them. "Firelights forever!" I chant into the sky.

Small talk and laughter. 

We walked and talked, that was until-

BOOM.

Tears, my hands are soaking wet, and I can't stop crying, what's wrong with me? It's been so long that their faces are so hard to remember, I glance over for a split second. Shadow had been watching me, his eyes studying me for moments, "Don't cry, we will figure it out, I'm here." His arm extends for a moment before he pulls away.

'He doesn't know stop it Y/N' My sobbing continued as I tried to get a grip on reality, I know it's my fault. Shadow's ears slightly faltered, mine on the other hand were completely flat against my quills. Slowly attempting to stop crying. "You don't need to cry, Sonic will help you, and if he refuses I'll make him."

Shadow attempts to make me feel better, allowing a soft chuckle from my lips. I look at him with my tear-stained eyes and lashes. His bright ruby eyes meet mine with a sympathetic look on them, he takes a step closer to me. My lips quiver, and without being able to stop myself, I feel myself wrap my arms around him quickly, hugging him. He's so soft and so warm, then reality hits.

We both freeze.
