‘So? Are you not going to leave as well?’ I asked him. He walked to the car and got in the driver’s seat. ‘What are you doing?’
‘Get in.’ he said
‘Excuse me?’
‘I’ll take you wherever you want to go. And after that, I’ll keep you at the mansion.’ I rolled my eyes and got in, clearly annoyed at both the dead soldier and Brian. Who did he think he was to send these people to me? Knowing that he was not going to let go so easily, I shrugged and got into the passenger’s seat ‘Where are you going?’
‘The gas station.’ Instead of moving forward, he reversed the car.
‘What are you doing?’
‘Going to the nearest gas station.’ He said
‘No. They sell a special kind of cookies at the gas station near the province. I want to get those for Nanny Lisa.’ I said, hoping he would buy the lie. He didn’t seem to but, nevertheless, he reversed the car again and drove ahead. We arrived at the province in less than an hour. He was an expert driver. ‘You are willing to go this far just to buy cookies?’ I ignored him and went for the ATM. ‘You only said you wanted cookies’

He did not mind and just followed me ahead. ‘What? I’m going to the restroom are you going to follow me there too?’
He paused, narrowing his eyes dangerously before speaking ‘I’ll wait for in the car.’ I shrugged and went to the bathroom. Peeping through to see if he was behind. Seeing that he wasn’t I turned on a tap thinking of what to do when my eyes travelled to the open window?

I was at Crest café, a popular breakfast eatery in the province. I looked calm on the outside but my insides were n turmoil, wondering if he would show up and if my plan will work. I ordered a cup of tea and bagels. I was on my third sip of the piping hot tea when he walked in finally, wearing a white hoodie, brown shorts and a duckbill cap. I signaled to him and he walked over to me without any trace of a smile he looked much worn out even though he wore neat clothes. He ordered a cup of coffee without sparing me much of a glance. I turned to the waiter right before he left. ‘Get tea instead. I don’t like coffee’ the waiter waited for a reaction and seeing none, he nodded and went to bring his food. It was only after the cup of coffee was set down that I spoke
