'Come on, Doctor Shi. I'm sure those houses will appreciate in the future.'
He laughed loudly 'Tell you what, Celine. I have four condo units in the province. I'll sell one to you and if the price appreciates according to what you say, then I will give another one to you for free.'
'Doctor Shi you really don't have to...'
'Take it as a gift from me to you.'
The look on his face told me I could not argue anymore with him so I accepted that he keep the last one if he was going to give me another of the houses. That would leave me with two of the condo units and him with the last one. I smiled before asking him the question that had been on my mind ever since I woke up from the coma.
'Why did you save me at the hospital?'
He paused briefly before answering in a vague way. 'I owe it to your father.' I nodded, even if I was not satisfied with his answer. I did not see how he could possibly owe my father. He was wealthier than me father was but was not as wealthy as Brian was. And as far as I remembered, my father was always the one asking him for favors. 'I'll send my agent to you by tomorrow with the papers and you can make the payment from there.'
'Thank you' I said and made to write down the house address when he told me that he would send the agent to BRW. I nodded and we had cups of tea before I went back to Brian's estate.

After dinner that evening, I went to meet Brian in his chamber. He had the chamber built for himself after his parents left. He could have easily taken the master's bedroom but he did not. Instead, he built another comfortable house for himself and attached it to the main house on the ground floor. He was on a phone call when I entered. I sat on the couch and fiddled with one of the pillows while admiring the wall paintings. I did not realize that he was done with his call until I sensed a pair of eyes on my back. I turned around and asked him how work was. I had to because judging from his posture, he was not going to speak first.
'Fine. All went well.' He cleared his throat before asking me 'How was your stay at home?'
I was taken aback but I still answered 'Uneventful. But the good thing is I am still resuming tomorrow right?'
He nodded slowly and did not say anything again. I told him about Brayden's daughter, Ellie. I of course, did not tell him who Brayden was. I only told him that she was the daughter of a spy I had at Pearl's. Much to my surprise, he agreed without hesitation but she was not going to stay at the mansion. I was not comfortable with the idea of compromising her safety. I wanted her to be where I could easily watch her. And where Brayden could not easily get to her just in case he got any ideas of back stabbing me. 'Where is she now?'
'I put her with a caregiver.'
'Okay.' I did not say anything again because I knew he was going to handle it from his tone.
I was about to speak when he suddenly asked. 'Have you met Jeremiah before?'
I was taken aback. 'Sir?'
'Jeremiah, my attorney, have you met him before?'
'Um... yes he is an old friend of mine.'
'Friend?'
'Yes, sir.' I replied, getting confused
'Just friends?'
I nodded slowly before asking 'Why are you asking all questions?'
'Nothing. I'm just curious.'
'Is there a problem?'
'None... Why are you here?'
'You said you wanted to talk about something, right?'
'Oh. The company's anniversary and my parents return. I need you to find a possible event planner and start preparations in earnest.'
'Do you have any specific details you'd like to add?'
'There are on my tablet.' I went to the drawer where he usually kept it and did not see it there.
'Where is it?'
'It's in the study.' I took it and met him in the living room again.
'Anything else?'
'Why are you in a hurry to leave?'
