It had been a long day at school, and I was ready to wind down. Between drills, lessons, and the usual chaos of being a UA High student, the idea of hanging out with Kirishima again sounded like the perfect escape. We’d been dating for a couple of weeks now, and every time we spent time together, it felt like we were growing closer.
As the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, I packed up my things slowly. I didn’t mind the extra time; it gave me a few more moments to calm my thoughts. My heart always seemed to flutter a bit when I thought about spending time with him. Kirishima was already waiting at the door, leaning against the frame with that signature grin plastered across his face.
"Hey, Y/N! Ready to hang out?" he asked, his voice full of excitement.
"Yeah, of course," I replied, a smile creeping onto my face as I grabbed my bag and stood up. "Lead the way."
We walked side by side, chatting casually about the usual things—the day’s lessons, the crazy drills, and of course, the UA Sports Festival. But today, there was something different in the air between us. It was the kind of comfortable silence that only comes from knowing someone so well. Every word felt like it mattered just a little more when spoken to him.
“So, you’re still trying to beat me at the festival, huh?” I teased, nudging him playfully. “I hope you’re ready to get crushed.”
He let out a dramatic gasp, a hand flying to his chest. “Oh, you’re so on. I’ll take you down in every event.”
I raised an eyebrow at him. “We’ll see about that. You might be a big guy, but I’ve got strategy on my side.”
Kirishima laughed, slinging his arm around my shoulders as we walked out of the school and into the fresh air. “Strategy, huh? Guess I’ll have to come up with some killer moves myself.”
We both laughed, and for a moment, I was lost in the rhythm of our casual chatter. His arm around me felt natural now, and I couldn’t help but feel a little giddy every time he made me laugh.
We walked toward the ramen shop we both loved, and once we arrived, I couldn’t help but grin at the familiar warmth of the place. The smell of rich broth and fresh noodles made my stomach growl in anticipation.
“So, what’s your go-to ramen style?” I asked, sitting down at our usual booth.
Kirishima sat across from me, a grin on his face. “The spiciest one they’ve got. I like to live dangerously.”
I laughed. “Spicy, huh? I might need to carry a glass of water with me for you.”
He winked at me. “Don’t worry, I’ve got this.”
We ordered our food, and while waiting, the conversation drifted effortlessly. Kirishima was always full of energy, but when he talked to me, his voice softened, like I was the only one in the room.
"So, what’s been on your mind lately?" he asked, his expression becoming more serious as he leaned forward.
I paused for a second, surprised by the question. But then I realized, Kirishima always seemed to want to know what was on my mind.
“I don’t know… The festival’s coming up soon, and I’ve been thinking about the competition. It’s hard to believe it’s already so close. I don’t know if I’m ready for it.” I looked down at my hands, suddenly feeling the weight of the upcoming event.
Kirishima reached across the table and placed his hand over mine. "Hey, don’t worry about it. You’re ready. You’re always ready. If anyone can handle it, it’s you. And even if it’s tough, I’ll be right there with you every step of the way."
The sincerity in his voice made my heart skip a beat. I squeezed his hand, looking up at him. “Thanks, Kiri. I really needed to hear that.”
He smiled back at me, his eyes softening. “Anytime, Y/N. You know I’ve got your back.”
Our food arrived shortly after, and we dove into our bowls of ramen, sharing bites and laughing. Kirishima was exaggerating his reactions to the spice, pretending to choke and gasp for water after every bite. It was just like him—always making everything more fun, even when it was just eating ramen.
“Alright, alright, I’ll admit it,” he said dramatically between bites, “you were right. It’s spicy.”
“I told you!” I laughed, reaching for my own water as I leaned back in my seat. “You’re such a drama king, Kiri.”
He smirked, nudging me with his shoulder. “What can I say? I like to make things exciting.”
After finishing up at the ramen shop, we decided to walk around the city. The evening air was crisp, and the streets were alive with people heading home after work or school. It felt peaceful, and walking beside Kirishima made everything feel even more relaxed.
“So, what do you want to do next?” I asked, looking over at him as we walked.
Kirishima grinned, his eyes sparkling. “I was thinking we could hit up the arcade. What do you say? Let’s see who’s really the best at games.”
I laughed, shaking my head. “You really think you can beat me?”
“Of course I can!” he said, pulling me along toward the arcade with determination in his voice.
We spent hours playing various games, from racing games to shooting ones. I destroyed him at almost everything, much to his dramatic dismay. Kirishima tried to challenge me at everything, but I always managed to come out on top.
"Okay, okay, maybe you’re better at games than I thought," he admitted, giving me an exaggerated, pouty look. "I’ll get you next time."
“Sure, sure,” I teased, playfully shoving him. “Keep dreaming, Kiri.”
The sun began to set as we walked out of the arcade, our laughter still echoing in the night air.
“Hey, you want to do something crazy?” Kirishima asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“What do you have in mind?” I asked, intrigued.
Before I could blink, he grabbed my hand and dragged me toward a nearby building. We dashed up the stairs, and after a few minutes, we made it to the roof. Out of breath, we leaned against the railing, gazing at the sunset as the city lights started to twinkle in the distance.
“That was insane,” I said, still trying to catch my breath.
Kirishima turned to me, his hand still holding mine. "Yeah, but it was fun, right?" He paused, looking at the sunset for a moment, his expression softening. "You know, I’ve been thinking a lot lately."
I raised an eyebrow, curious. “About what?”
He took a deep breath, turning to face me with a serious yet tender look. "About how lucky I am to have you. You’ve made me a better person, Y/N. I’ve never met anyone like you, and I just want you to know... I don’t ever want to lose you."
My heart swelled at his words, and I couldn’t help but smile, my eyes locking with his. "I feel the same way, Kiri. I’m glad we found each other."
His grin returned, brighter than ever, as he leaned in and kissed me softly. It wasn’t a rush, just a gentle press of lips that made everything feel right.
When we pulled away, we stood there for a moment, the city’s lights shining brightly around us.
"Let’s be the best heroes together," he said, his voice filled with conviction.
I smiled, squeezing his hand tighter. “Absolutely. Together.”
And as we stood there, with the world bustling around us, I realized that no matter what the future held, as long as we had each other, we could face anything.
