The rhythmic chug of the train filled the air as students boarded the Hogwarts Express for the start of another school year. The platform was bustling with movement—friends reuniting, parents fussing over their children, and first-years gazing up at the scarlet engine in awe.
Lettie adjusted her emerald-green cloak as she stepped onto the train, Theo at her side.
"You seem distracted," Theo noted, glancing at her.
Lettie hummed in response, her fingers grazing the silver pendant around her neck—the one Fred had given her before she left. "Just thinking."
Theo rolled his eyes. "Translation: You miss Weasley."
She shot him a smirk. "And you don't miss Lovegood?"
Theo opened his mouth to argue but shut it immediately. His ears turned red.
Lettie laughed, nudging his shoulder as they made their way through the corridor.
As they reached their usual compartment, they found Luna and Susan already inside, chatting about their summers.
Luna beamed. "You're late."
Theo collapsed onto the seat beside her. "Blame Selwyn. She kept sighing dramatically in longing for her lover."
Lettie rolled her eyes but didn't argue.
Susan smirked. "So, how serious are you and Fred?"
Lettie shrugged, but there was a warmth in her eyes. "Serious enough."
Luna tilted her head. "You both have that 'hopelessly in love' energy."
Theo snorted. "Disgusting, really."
Lettie kicked his shin. "Jealous?"
"Of Fred Weasley?" Theo scoffed. "Not in a thousand years."
Before Lettie could retort, the compartment door slid open, and Harry stepped inside.
"Mind if I join?"Susan grinned. "Always."
He dropped into the seat beside her, looking more at ease than he had in years. The lingering tension from the war preparations was still there, but the weight of secrecy was gone—Sirius was free, he had a home, and he wasn't alone anymore.
Lettie studied him. "You look... different."
Harry raised an eyebrow. "Because I don't have glasses anymore?"
"No," she said, shaking her head. "You look—happier."
Harry hesitated before nodding. "I think I am."
Susan laced her fingers through his. "Good."
Theo made a gagging noise. "Bloody hell, first Lettie and Weasley, now you two?"
Luna patted his knee. "You're just mad because you're also in love."
Theo crossed his arms. "Am not."
Lettie smirked. "You are."
Luna smiled dreamily. "It's alright, Theo. We won't judge."
He groaned, slouching into his seat as the others laughed.
As the train sped toward Hogwarts, there was an unspoken understanding among them all.
This year would be different.
This was the calm before the storm.
