THIRD PERSON

"Hello everyone. My name is Yeshua F. de Mevius. I am 4 years old. I came from U.S.A. and I am here to take up summer classes with you all. I hope we can be friends!"

All eyes were looking at a young Yeshua who's standing at the front. Nakangiti siya kahit kinakabahan. Nanginginig rin ang kamay niya.

"Class, please be nice to Yeshua, okay? He's new to our school so I hope you treat him very nicely. Am I clear?"

"Yes, Madam!" the children answered in unison.

The teacher nodded and smiled. "Well then, Yeshua, you can take your seat at the back, beside Kharl."

Yeshua walked to the back of the class and sat down.

"Hello," he greeted Kharl who's sitting beside him.

Kharl just glanced at Yeshua briefly, then turned his attention back to the front of the room.

"My name's Yeshua," Yeshua said again, trying to start a conversation. "How about you?"

Kharl didn't respond.

Napangiti nalang si Yeshua at itinuon ang tingin sa harap.

The teacher started her discussion and it was a Math subject. They just continue discussing subtraction of numbers from yesterday and Kharl immediately started to actively participating.

"Okay, who can tell me the answer of 8 minus 3?"

Kharl raised his hand.

"Yes, Kharl."

"5, Madam," Kharl answered proudly.

"Very good! Let us give 5 claps to Kharl!"

The students then clapped.

Si Yeshua naman ay nakatingin lang kay Kharl at nakipalakpak rin.

"Now, how about 10 minus 4?"

Kharl raised his hand again.

"Kharl, again? Other hands? How about the others?"

Wala pa ring nagtaas ng kamay maliban kay Kharl.

"I want to hear from the new student, Yeshua."

Gulat na napatingin si Yeshua sa harap.

"Yeshua, can you tell me what is 10 minus 4? You can draw sticks on your paper if you don't know how to solve it mentally."

Yeshua looked around the room and his classmates were all looking at him.

Napalunok naman siya.

"S-six, madam."

"Wow! It looks like you know very well how to subtract numbers! Very good! Let us give 5 claps to Yeshua!"

His classmates immediately gave him 5 claps kaya napangiti naman siya. Except for Kharl though.

"Always remember, class, that when subtracting numbers, the bigger number must always come first, and the smaller number comes second. Am I clear?"

"Yes, madam!" the children answered in unison.

"Madam, what will happen if the smaller number comes first and the bigger number comes second?" Kharl asked.
