College was supposed to be just another chapter in Mon's life.

She had prepared for it—spent the summer packing, saying goodbye to high school, and mentally gearing up for the next big step.

At eighteen, Mon had already experienced a lot when it came to love.

She had had her first girlfriend.

Her first kiss.

Her first breakup.

She had whispered "I love you" for the first time under a sky full of stars, her hands intertwined with someone else's, heart racing like it might burst.

She had also felt the sting of heartbreak—the kind that left her curled up in bed, missing someone who used to be her everything.

Love had been beautiful, messy, and real.

But nothing—nothing—could have prepared her for Samanan Anantrakul, Sam for short.

For the girl who made time stop.

For the girl who, with one glance, made Mon feel like she was falling and flying all at once.

----------

The first time Mon saw her, it was during freshman orientation.

The campus was buzzing with energy—students running around, trying to find their buildings, introducing themselves with the usual "Where are you from?" and "What's your major?"

Mon was walking across the courtyard, chatting with her roommate, when she saw her.

And suddenly—the world went quiet.

She was standing near the entrance of the student center, leaning against a pillar, arms crossed.

Dressed in all black—ripped jeans, combat boots, and a leather jacket despite the heat—she looked completely out of place among the sea of nervous freshmen.

She had jet-black hair, cut just above her shoulders, sharp cheekbones, and the kind of expression that screamed stay away.

People did stay away.

They glanced at her, whispered about her, but no one dared approach.

But Mon?

Mon couldn't look away.

Because something about her felt... different.

Like she was a storm waiting to be understood.

Like she was cold to the world but warm to the right person.

Mon didn't know why, but deep in her chest, she had a feeling—

I want to be that person.

----------

"Earth to Mon?"

Her roommate, Juno, waved a hand in front of her face.

Mon blinked.

Juno followed her gaze and grinned. "Oooooh. You've got that look."

"What look?"

"The 'I just saw the most beautiful girl in existence' look."

Mon felt her face heat up. "Shut up."
