Chapter 9: Idealistic Principles.
......The world might not be receptive of how I view or do things, but changing it is something I've always intended to do. I myself am not receptive of the world, who do you think will come out on top?
......I know nothing of this world, I am unaware of what is considered standard and have zero idea of what constitutes normal phenomena.
But I was certain that I did not meet any of those unknown conditions.
How many times has it been now? How many times have I received answers only to be drowned in new questions soon after.
It's tiring.
A muffled bang reached my ears and I turned my attention back to the blonde woman that acted nothing like what I was familiar with.
A person under a person, or was what I met even Carrera — no, Carrera Tempest —- at all?
She was silent, dignified. The kind of bearing that takes the will to show any resistance or opposition away.
From her facial expression to the clothes on her back, she was nearly the polar opposite of the demon I had come to know.
With that same impassive expression, she had struck with her gavel, signifying the beginning of this trial.
I looked around once again, wondering if anyone could sense my presence. No one seemed to be able to.
The monsters and humans in the hall had their attention seized by Carrera, and I had a faint suspicion that even if I was here in flesh and blood, my presence would still go unnoticed.
A man with white horns wearing a suit stood. He had a stern expression and had a symbol of a dragon engraved into him neck tie.
Murmurs calling him a prosecutor reached my ears, uttered in hushed tones by those near me.
“The state accuses Higain Stode of fraud, embezzlement and attempted treason. I, Mari Biru, will begin the questioning,” He said, his voice reaching my ears clearly, as if he was standing right next to me.
Carrera still did not speak, she simply nodded, and the man continued.
“Mr. Stode, how do you plead?”
At the moment the question was asked, multiple things finally clicked.
I had been inspecting my Unique Skill before being drawn into this world, which I instinctively realized was a recreated memory.
The fact that I could somehow perceive everything happening within the hall was likely due to experiencing this through Carrera’s senses, though the notion that anyone could process this much sensory information was baffling to me.
I also realized one more thing..
This trial was a farce.
I had not noticed before, or perhaps I did not care to think anything through. But it was painfully obvious when I realised the defendant did not even have a lawyer in tow.
From the judge gazing with prideful arrogance on top to the commoners who watched the spectacle below, I could sense no anticipation.
It was like this was something they had experienced too many times.
Even the defendant had no other obvious emotion beyond resignation and regret.
And his answer proved that.
“Guilty as charged,” He said, not faltering in the slightest.
“The questioning has come to an end,” The man, Mari, spoke solemnly.
