Hello my dearest readers, lol. Thank you for reading my new and official book, Bounds! I greatly appreciate it and I enjoyed making it. As I prepare to rerelease part two with most likely major changes, this chapter will be dedicated to Benjamin and Sybil's character Synopsis and part one's synopsis incase you've read the original work and don't want to reread to the updates.
Character synopsis:
Sybil Van Hellsing
Sybil Van Hellsing is a black girl living in a small,
Predominantly white village in Salem, Massachusetts. Her father is a plantation owner's son who ran away with Katherina, who was a slave. Though Sybil and her mother have a good relationship, it is not the same with her father, Christopher, who discourages her passions due to her color and gender.I felt like it was important for me to clarify this in my story with the poem in chapter 10 because I felt like it was not portrayed correctly the first time around. That is why Sybil feels like an outsider in the Village of Salem and in the town. Besides her mother, Sybil has no one in the village that looks like her and ultimately makes her an anomaly, which is why she never married until Benjamin.
After meeting Benjamin, in chapter 2, who was also black, did she finally feel a true connection to someone because of their shared past experiences with racism. That is also why they both have that instant connection and sought out normalcy within each other. However, I do want to clarify that Sybil and Benjamin are still their own persons at the end of the day.
Sybil is a very stubborn, headstrong and resilient person, who cares about the people around her. She is analytical yet irrational in her decisions and is willing to sacrifice herself to save others, i.e. Benjamin in chapter 23-24. However, it is only until meeting Benjamin does she feel a sense of belonging and acceptance that she desperately wants.
Benjamin Van Hellsing
Benjamin Van Hellsing is an "investigator" for the Catholic Church alongside his father Andres. However, Benjamin was not raised by his father neither were his brother and sister. When Andre's was on a mission in 1616 Boston, he ended up falling in love with a woman who happened to be Benjamin's mother. She gave birth to him in 1617 and was raised by her up until he was 14 years old.
Around the time he'd turned 14, his mother was accidentally turned into a vampire and he ended up having to take her life to protect his older brother, who was mentioned in chapter 4 and chapter 16, which is how he got his scar over his eye. He does have an elder sister as mentioned in chapter 16 but it is not by blood.
After his mother's passing, Benjamin and his brother ended up in an orphanage which was predominately white and experienced hostility from the other adults and children. There Benjamin meets 16 year old Mariana, who also is going through the same thing because of her heritage, which is why the church does not know about her because she is not related by blood.
It wasn't until 1634 did Andres come back to Boston and gained custody of the boys and even Mariana, whom he'd continue to keep secret from the church and mentor as a student.
Benjamin is a smart, resourceful and a loving person that grew up experiencing feelings of resentment towards his father for neglecting him. It isn't until he starts apprenticing under his father did he have a better understanding of him and his life as an investigator. However, Benjamin also harbors feelings of guilt over killing his mother and carries it with him, waiting for the karma he thinks he deserves. It isn't until meeting Sybil is he finally able to let go of his demons does he finally finds enjoyment in life.
Part One Synopsis:
