Between Stars

A relic. A monument. A grave. Lyra Durand walks alone beneath the trees. She no longer flinches at flickering lights or humming cables. The world feels... lighter. But she still catches herself listening for static in silence. Still finds herself tracing phantom code in the condensation on windows. She still dreams in red and purple. Aelita is beside her now — not always, but enough. They've found a rhythm. Not quite friends, not quite sisters, but something strong and strange in between.

"You saved us," Aelita had said once.

Lyra had only replied, "He saved me first."

One night, when the moon is low and the Factory breathes in echoes, Lyra returns. Down the rope. Across the bridge. Into the tower. No voice welcomes her. No footsteps follow. Only the quiet hum of memory. She steps into the interface. No command is needed. The screen pulses to life. A single line of code blinks in the dark.

> Awaiting connection...

Her breath catches. She reaches out — fingertip brushing the translucent surface.

"I'm here," she whispers. "Still glitching. Still human."

The tower glows gently, not blue, not red, but a shifting swirl of violet, like bruised dusk. Somewhere between deletion and dream, she hears him:

"You're not alone, Lyra. I remember you. I always will."

Outside, the world keeps spinning. Inside, a girl and a ghost promise to meet again —in code, in memory, in the space where hearts and hard drives overlap. Where static becomes song. Where love rewrites everything.

"XANA, I can't believe we did all of this," Lyra said.

"We finally did," XANA said.

"XANA?"

"Yes?"

"I love you."

"I love you, too, Lyra."

They kissed.

The End.
