A Heart In The Shadows

Wei Ying and Lan Zhan returned , and they still put me in the middle.

Lan Zhan was laying closer to me than before.

"I hope there won't be any more erotic dreams."

Wei Ying teased.

"I don't know if I can help myself."

I muttered .

"We first have to marry you before we fulfill your fantasies."

Lan Zhan murmured.

"We'll take it one day at a time."

I muttered and they agreed, we then slept in perfect harmony.

When I woke up I was laying by myself, I sat up but there was no sight of Wei Ying or Lan Zhan.

I went to take a bath and then I walked around the Ice Realm but I still couldn't find them, I figured they probably went hunting.

I decided to go to the Medicine King.

When I walked in, he looked up at me.

"You're back."

He said in a stern voice.

I sighed.

"Don't be mad! I was careful."

I said softly.

"Let's check and see "

He said coldly.

He checked my pulse and then he checked .

He examined my arm.

"Have you been using your magic?"

I was about to lie but I decided to tell him the truth .

"I used it once."

He nodded his head.

"So?"

I prompted.

"You're fine but be careful, and take your medicine in time."

I nodded my head .

"Have you been sleeping well, eating well?"

I nodded my head.

"Can I have children?"

He blinked at me in surprise.

"Of course you can but ...."

His voice faded.

"But?"

I asked.

"It would be dangerous to have one with your condition,  you might not survive,

the poison in your blood is incurable . Having a child would complicate things, why are you asking?"

He said.

I hesitated, looking down at my hands.

“No reason,” I said too quickly.

The Medicine King narrowed his eyes. “Xuehua.”

I shook my head, offering him a faint smile. “Just curious.”

But the truth was louder than any answer I could give him.

I had never thought of children. Never had the luxury. But now… between the murmur of marriage and the way Wei Ying had held me so gently last night, the idea had bloomed, quiet and tender. And dangerous.

The Medicine King sighed.

“You’re strong, but not invincible. You survived something no one else has. That doesn’t mean you should test fate.”
