| Hiro's POV |
Without Baymax, his room seems quieter than usual. Hiro lays back on his bed and closes his eyes. The last couple of hours he's been with you, cleaning up the garage and hiding away the super suits. Now that you're gone, he's left with dealing with his sadness alone. But it doesn't feel helpless this time. The anxiety isn't there. The knot in the pit of his stomach is long gone, replaced by a fuzzy, fluttering feeling that he gets whenever he thinks of you. He desperately tries to fall asleep. He hasn't had much in the last few months, and he could really use a few hours under now. Still, he can't bring himself to fall under. He sits up and rubs his forehead.
I will always be with you.
These words echo in his mind over and over again. Hiro not only thinks of Baymax when he hears this. He thinks of Tadashi. His eyes fall on the hat that sits at the foot of his bed. Hiro stands up and slowly walks to his brother's side of the room.
"I'm sorry," Hiro whispers to the empty space. "I wasn't the best brother, or the best friend. I didn't do everything right, but I'm ready to change that. I'm going to do it for you, Tadashi." Hiro smiles and reaches his hand out. His fingers brush over the stitching of Tadashi's hat.
"Hiro, sweetie," Aunt Cass calls. Hiro walks back to his side of the room as Aunt Cass marches up the steps. "Are you hungry? I made spaghetti." She hands him a bowl. "I'll bring you a drink up. What would you like?"
"Uh, can we eat downstairs?" Hiro asks.
Aunt Cass blinks in surprise. "Really? I-I mean, sure. If you want to."
"I want to," Hiro says with a grin. "Thanks, Aunt Cass." He wraps one arm around her and leans in for a hug. Her arms immediately circle him. He presses his nose against her shoulder and inhales the comforting scent of the bakery and laundry detergent. "I love you."
"Oh. I love you, too," she replies. Hiro pulls away and runs down the stairs. As Aunt Cass pours the lemonade, he pulls out his cell phone and sends you a text.
I'm going to sign up for school tomorrow. Will you come?
You text back immediately:
Totally. I'm glad you changed your mind about it.
Hiro smiles.
Me, too.
His phone vibrates again. How are you holding up?
"Okay, sweetie. Lemonade's on the table. Now tell me all about school. When are you going to move into a lab?" Aunt Cass asks excitedly.
Hiro shrugs. "Probably on Friday," he answers. "I'm going to ask if ___ will help me after school."
Aunt Cass raises her eyebrows. "Oh? That's good. Are the two of you getting along? I thought you hit a rough patch for a while there." She turns to the pan of garlic bread. She cuts into it and places a thick piece on Hiro's napkin.
"We did, but everything's okay now. I really like her, Aunt Cass."
Aunt Cass bites down on her lip. "You like her?"
"Don't say anything," Hiro pleads, his fingers pressed up against his temple. "It would be so embarrassing if you had to tell her."
"Okay, I won't. I promise. But I expect to hear a full story of what her reaction was when you told her."
He rolls his eyes. "Alright, fine."
Aunt Cass claps her hands together. "Yay! Eat up, kiddo!" She pulls her chair out and takes a seat.
"Just one second," Hiro says. He pulls up your conversation and quickly sends a message back.
I'm fine.
And for once, he actually is.
