I need a plan. Adam knows things and I need to find them out. He's obviously not conherent when he's half asleep, so that would be a the perfect time. The question is, do to I talk to him when he's half asleep if he's in Bently's room?
"Ebony!" Bently yelled.
"Huh?" I snapped my head around to look at him. I had been totally zoned out.
"You know what to do right?" He asked, handing me an ore.
Oh...we're going canoing? "Yeah." I lied.
We followed the instructor over to where the canoes were. I didn't listen to any of the instructions he had given us. I was hoping maybe he would give us a quick review of what he said, but that didn't happen. If I have to play a certain part in this, we're screwed.
I grabbed Adam as we were putting our life jackets on. "What the hell are we supposed to do?"
"Weren't you listening?"
"No. I was thinking about other things. Now explain!"
"Just paddle." He said.
Wow. He's so helpful. I turned around to Tyler. "What do I do?" I asked.
He looked up at me. "About what?"
"This...canoing thing! I wasn't listening."
"You little liar. You told Bently you were listening." He grinned.
I slapped him in the head. "Explain."
"Look just get in and start paddling on the opposite side of the person in front of you. Paddle backwards to go forwards, and paddle forwards to go backwards." He said.
I nodded. That sounds easy enough. I just have to remember the to do the opposite of where I want to go. Yeah, that made sense in my head.
I climbed into the canoe with the rest of the boys. Bently was in front of me and Tyler was behind me. Adam was in the very back, which I'm not sure was a smart decision. I can just see him screwing around back there.
Tyler leaned up. "Paddle on the opposite side Bently does."
I nodded and put my ore in the water on the left side. "Now what?" I hissed back at Tyler.
"Paddle." He laughed.
Oh...well duh.
We followed the instructor's canoe down the river. I was really hating the people that got to share a canoe with him. He was giving them instructions on what to do and leaving me with who? Tyler, that's who. Although he knew what he was talking about, I felt like it would work out better if I had the professional telling me what to do.
I heard the instructor guy, I really need to learn his name, yell something. I couldn't hear him though. The rapids were too loud. Wait. RAPIDS?!
"Uh guys!" I yelled.
"Did you hear what he said?!" Bently yelled back at us.
"No." I answered.
He took a deep breath. "Me either."
I looked at everyone else around us and they were paddling faster. I always thought you should stop paddling and hang on to something. But I followed them, doing exactly what they did. It was rough. I could hear Adam laughing like a maniac in the back. He would be enjoying this.
Just then I totally lost the grip of the ore, and it slipped right into the water. I reached to grab it.
"Ebony don't!" Tyler yelled, but I was already too far. I lost my balance and fell. Normally I would be fine in this situation. I would just swim to the top. The only problem is, I don't know which way the top is. The rapids were pulling me further down river fast, and I was running out of air a lot faster. My back was slammed into a rock, which hurt like hell considering I still had my stitches in. Hmm, I guess not getting them wet has failed miserably. I figured if I'm going to be slammed against this rock, I might as well put it to good use. I looked where I thought was up and followed it. Finally my head was above the water and I took a giant breath of air, just before another wave of water hit me. I was pushed under again, but this time someone's arms were around my waist pulling me towards what I hoped was land.
