HANNA'S P.O.V
I skipped school today. Well, it's only 6 in the morning but I was already planning not to go. My eyes were beyond red anyway. I didn't sleep. I mean, how could I?
"Honey? I made you bacon and eggs. Would you like to come downstairs?" Mom gently knocked.
"I'll preheat it later mom. Thank you for the breakfast."
"Can you open please?"
"I don't think-"
"Hann, open it."
That's mom. When she's keen to know, she will get the answer. I unlocked the door and immediately attacked by her hug. I bet she just got some news flash from Luke's mother that her son wasn't in town anymore. I think I didn't have a chance to tell my parents about it. Yesterday with Toby was horrible. Or at least I felt insignificant, so I dropped everything off and didn't tell them.
"I understand it, sweetheart..."
"Mom, he's gone. I have spent my whole life roaming around town with him and only him."
"I know. It sucks baby I get it." She stroked my hair. "Just take as much time as you need to heal, okay? But you have to understand, life must go on. He would hate your procrastinating mode."
"Like he always did." I muttered.
"And Toby's outside. I bet he's that nice person who I didn't get the chance to meet last night when he drove you. With the fact Luke has introduced him to me the other night."
"Toby?" I checked my window. His car's parked outside. "Why so early?"
"I didn't ask much. Maybe taking over Luke, to drive you to school? Why don't you meet him, love? Appreciate his presence. Okay? He's put you first this morning. Do the same thing."
I swept my tears away by mom's help. I fixed my bun too. Kinda looked like crap myself but I bet Toby wouldn't expect anything, anyway. The only thing that kept me sane was Toby's real presence. I kept remind myself that he's the celebrity, yet he still put me on top of his list since Luke asked him to.
"Mom?" I held her hand.
"Yes honey?"
"Luke likes me. All this time." I whispered and burst out cried again.
"Oh..."
She hugged me tighter. I understand. There's no good thing to tell at this point. Mom hummed me gently til I stopped crying. I never got this emotional before in my life. So I just knew it felt suck like this.
"Come. Meet him. Been waiting for too long." Mom rubbed my back and nodded. "Pick yourself up honey."
"Okay." I breathed out. "Okay yeah."
I walked downstairs fast. And I saw him scanning my living room's family collage pictures.
"Hey."
"Oh hey." He turned around. "Too early?"
"Not really. I've been awake. How are you?"
"How are you?" He asked back. "In a serious tone. How are you holding up?"
"Pretty messy for now." I chuckled and tilted my head so my wouldn't blink any tears again. "So...what brings you here? I suppose this is very early to you."
"School time."
"I...uh, actually am not feeling like going."
"Well then I'll drive you anywhere you want."
I looked at him in the eye. He's here. When no one was at all. Toby tried so hard to make sure I was fine. Too selfish if I didn't give him a chance to do what he's promised to Luke.
"How well do you know Tampa anyway?"
"I don't know. But... I'm a pretty crazy guy, though. I might not familiar enough with Tampa. However, Orlando..."
"Are you taking me to Orlando?" I choked.
"Planning to. We're leaving in the afternoon. Since you want to take a break from school, I'll just go straight asking if you want to come with us?"
"Mooooom?" I excitedly shouted.
I didn't know why I got this excited. But that's me. I told my heart to break this small part of solid wall I once built against him, then that's also the time my brain told me how to fix the broken heart.
"Okay! Go to Orlando or something!" She yelled back from her room.
"Wait what?" I glared him. "Oh please. You did it."
"She asked. I don't tell lie."
"Then mom lied because she told me you're driving me to school."
"That, too. Well, many plans for you to choose. I can do any of those."
I laughed. "Okay so what's next?"
"Pack your bags for how many days you think you can deal. I can drive you back home anytime. So no limit to it."
"Hold that thought."
I ran back to my room. Half excited, half sad. I probably felt the guilt too for being able to move on in such a quick time. But I guess that's what Luke wanted. To Orlando we go.
"See, my baby's growing up. Enjoy the ride!" Mom kissed my cheek before we're leaving.
"Take care, daughter." Dad sassed me.
"Haha. Alright father, you too."
"Call us sometimes!" Mom waved.
"Everyday." I hopped into Toby's car.
"Take a good care of her, son." Dad hugged Toby too. Wait. It never happened except with Luke.
"I will, Sir. See you later."
"Bye!" I mouthed and waved back.
Toby started the engine and we slowly drove away. I stole one last glance at my house and my parents. Felt odd. Felt good. We quickly passed Luke's house too. Nothing significant happened in it. I bet his mom also needed her time to deal with changes. We all did.
So here's the thing. Toby was not Luke, and he would never be; but Toby being Toby was beyond enough.
