I woke up to multiple bright lights burning my eyes. I sat up quickly, feeling woozy as I did. I realized I was laying on a hospital bed, but that I wasn't in an ordinary-looking hospital. I looked over the overly-bright room, which looked very clean and empty, with no people and white walls. I'd seen enough movies to know what usually happened to people who woke up in creepy places that were most definitely not hospitals. Using the medical knowledge that I learned in college and afterwards, I detached the various IVs and other cords that I was hooked up to, with little bleeding from the places they were inserted.
I started moving towards the archway in the room that looked like an exit. However, as soon as I did, I collided with another body.
Acting on impulses and instinct, I grabbed the person's arm and twisted it around their back, and they yelped in surprise and pain.
"Please don't break my arm." The person said, who I know could see was a man with shoulder-length black hair.
"Who are you and where am I?" I demanded.
"Ok, ok. How about you calm down a bit, and then sit down and I'll tell you." He responded, a little sassiness in his tone.
I nodded and let go of his arm. I sat down in the nearest chair, waiting for him to relax and tell me what I needed to know. He rubbed his arm, and then looked at me. "My name is Cisco, and you're at STAR Labs." He began.
"STAR Labs looks like one of those creepy facilities people wake up in during horror movies," I commented.
"I know right! I tried to get Dr. Wells to paint the walls or add something but he says there's no point." Cisco said enthusiastically before clearing his throat.
"Anyways, when the particle accelerator blew up, you got hit by lightning and fell into a coma. Iris West took you to the hospital around the same time that Barry was found and taken there. And then a couple weeks later, you were both brought here." He said, nodding his head towards another man laying in a hospital bed, one who I had not noticed before.
"How long have I been out?" I asked.
"8 and a half months. It's weird, really. We thought that you and Barry would wake up at the same time, if not him before you." He commented.
"Okay, what about the police department?" I asked.
He looked confused but then nodded. "Your job is secure. Detective West, Iris' dad, explained to the police captain what happened."
I nodded. "Well, great. I'm leaving then."
His eyes widened. "Oh, no no no, you can't leave! We still have to run tests!" He protested.
"I'm fine, seriously. I checked myself out when I woke up." I said.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"Really? Did you guys not do background checks on me here? I went to college to be a psychologist and I took medical classes too." I said, rolling my eyes.
"Oh." was all he said.
"Well, if you start feeling weird then come back here not the hospital." He said, uneasily.
I nodded, turning to leave. "Thanks for helping and what not."
"No problem. Sorry for the place looking like a horror film."
I smiled. "Bye, Cisco."
"Bye, Rory."
Then I left and headed home. On the street outside my house, there was a cardboard box. I looked inside to see a tiny German Shepherd puppy. He must have been the runt of the litter. I picked it up to examine him. He perked up and licked my face, and I knew then and there I had to keep him. So, I did. I took him home with me. I was decided what to name him when I noticed that my pantry was open in the kitchen. I looked inside to see the puppy sitting there, licking at the floor. He had snuck in, knocked over a can of beans and managed to bust it open so that he could eat it. It was the cutest and funniest thing, so I decided to name him Bandit.
Maybe my house wouldn't feel so empty now.
