2 and a half month.. I have two weeks left to do my job. I can't do it. I can't muster enough strength to end his life.
He just needs to let go by himself. I don't want to end his life. I want him to end his own life. I don't mean suicide, I mean he's weak. He's venerable.
He's starving. He's weak. He's dying.
If he dies before the two weeks is up, I be free. I won't have to fight. I won't have to suffer. I won't have to watch him suffer.
I just need to wait for the moment he finally dies.
But I have a feeling he won't.
Despite being extremely weak, he's still strong.
I was walking down the streets at midnight. I needed air. I needed to breathe.
My mind is so clouded.
But as I walk, I see people. They were walking, but in slow motion. Everything in my peripheral is in slow motion right now.
I suddenly stopped when I saw someone in front of me.
"Nate?" I ask, feeling utterly shocked.
How did he escape? How?!
He almost didn't look real. He wouldn't look at me. He looked -- well -- as if he weren't weak. He wasn't dying. He looked normal..
Did he die? Is this a ghost? He's dead.
I watched him look at me, then turn his back to me. Then he disappeared. I only stood there, as he disappeared.
Wait... That means..
He's dead.
--
Opening my eyes, I sit up looking around. I'm in the penthouse. It's just a dream..
Wait, so if it was a dream.. Is he actually dead?
Grabbing my laptop, I open it, locating him on the cameras. He was in the kitchen, where he made his little camp. He had pulled a desk he found into there, crafting it into a little hiding area. Clever young man he is.
He was sleeping, lying still, slumped into a small ball. He looked dead. But I could see the faint rise and fall of his chest. Every minute or two, he'd take a deep breathe, he'd stay still, then breathe out.
I saw his body shaking faintly.
My hopes might actually come true. By the looks of it, he's clinging to the final threads of his life. He's really clinging to that thread. A thread that is barely there.
I'm sure he's found water. He's probably found food. But I'm sure he's almost out of whatever he's managed to scrounge up. If it weren't for the food and water he's found, he'd be dead.
Part of me is glad he found that supply. Yet, the other half hates it.
I keep my eye on him for another minute, watching him shake weakly.
Closing my eyes, I close the laptop, hearing someone walk out of the hallway. My wife.
"Matthew? Why are you awake?" She asked me.
"I can't sleep." I lied, looking aside. She looked at me, and sighed.
"Why are you awake?" I ask her the same question.
"Morgan woke up screaming." She said.
"Again? Why?" I ask.
"She's stressed. She's in pain. Nate's been gone for 2 and a half months, she doesn't know what to do. She's lost." Steph explained. "We can't get mad at her. She can't help it. If you suddenly went missing, I'm sure I act how she is."
There was silence between us.
"She cares for him a lot, and for him to just 'drop off the edge of the earth' two hours after she saw him, sent her so far down hill, that she doesn't even recall the last time she properly ate." Stephanie said silently.
I look at my closed laptop, as she looked at me.
"Are you working on a new script?" She asked me.
"Wh--"
"You've been on your laptop a lot in the past two months, it makes me think you're working on a Game Theory script.. Or Film Theory.. Is that what you're doing?" She asked.
"Uh.." I trailed off. She's scouting. I can't tell her why I always have my laptop on me. "Yes."
"What's the Theory?" She asked me.
I looked at her, holding my breath. "Sister Location." I say.
"Another one?" I ask.
I nodded. "You could never have too many Five Nights theories." I tell her.
... Yes you can...
She looked at me, then sighed.
"Well you carry on, I'm going back to bed." She said to me.
"Alright, love you." I say to her as she walks away.
She stopped looking at me. She looked sad but smiled, hiding her pain . "I love you too."
