I called the police, and they called Morgan.
I told them a lie. That I found the missing Nate Smith.. I didn't find him.. I knew he was here the entire time.
They need to hurry. He's barely holding on.. He's hardly fighting for that last thread of his life.
I had his frail body in my arms, in hopes, that I can possibly keep him warm. But he kept shivering.
20 minutes past.
It's silent.
He fell completely still for a moment, and I panicked, fearing he was gone. He let go. I wouldn't want him to suffer. I don't blame him. He suffered for three months, him holding out this long is impressive.. If he lets go now... At least he isn't suffering anymore.
But I sigh in relief when I felt the gasp for air.
Another 5 minutes past, and I flinched when I saw a light.
Someone's here!
"Hello?!" I hear a voice.
Morgan!
"Matthew?!"
Stephanie?
How'd they get here first?
"Morgan!" I call, hear their footsteps get closer. "Steph!"
I saw a flashlight shining in my direction, and I felt relief when I saw the figure of Morgan Want. Steph followed.
"Morgan!" I called again, trying not to move.
She walked into the kitchen, looking at me, before dropping her flashlight.
"Oh my god." She whispered. "No.."
She suddenly dove down, allowing me to move out of the way. She fell to the floor, holding him up. He wouldn't move.
"Nate?" She whispered, with a whimper. "Nate.."
I sit on the floor, watching her. Steph walked to my side sitting down beside me. She just remained silent.
"Nate.." Morgan looked up.
He's not moving. I'm scared.. He finally let go..
I saw tears well up in her eyes, as she closed her eyes. She just hugged his frail body gently, resting her forehead against his. "Please.."
I sat there silently, as she held him to her body, her forehead pressed to his.
We were all silent for five minutes. He still wouldn't move. I suddenly heard her break out into sobs. Her pain fill cries echoed in the building.
"Please!" She cried. "Please don't leave me! I need you! Please.. Please come back, Nate... Please.." She sobbed, gently hugging his frail body. "I love you."
I feel her pain. I feel the guilt. I did this.
He's suffered and now she has to suffer for what I did.
After another silent moment, he suddenly coughed, moving slightly.
I look up, seeing Morgan look up, her eyes wide in surprise.
Something told me, he was so close to letting go, then he heard her. It won't be me who saves him..
It's her.
He knows it's her.
He heard her.
I saw him shake, before opening his eyes, faintly, looking at her. ".. Morgan.."
I heard her sigh in relief, a smile faintly spread on her face, as tears still fell down her face.
"Yeah.." She whispered.. "Nate, it's me.. I'm here.."
He barely looked her, but I know he tried his best.
He didn't say anything.
I sat beside my wife, suddenly hearing the faint distance of sirens of an ambulance.
Morgan just kept hugging him. She wouldn't let him go. She held onto him for dear life..
... I don't blame her..
"You're going to be okay, Nate." She told him, keeping her forehead pressed to his. "You will live. You're going to get out of her."
"Everything will be okay."
