Alright, operation "help Connor Murphy not be a depressed, angry person" begins today!
In hindsight, you probably should have come up with a shorter name, but oh well.
As per usual, Jared waited for you at the end of the street so you could walk together but, something was off today. He looked anxious about something, which shouldn't be strange for a highschool student, but Jared would never let this show in public. "Well, if it isn't Jare Bear. Now frendo, tell me what's wrong." He looked at you, hardly changing his expression. "Can you stop with the stupid nicknames?"
"Oh come on, that's what friends do I think. I wouldn't actually know." Surprisingly, your self-deprecating humor didn't seem to help. You let out a curt sigh. "You're still worried about Connor, aren't you?" There was a short pause. "No." Bullshit. "I don't believe you for a second but, I won't push it." It was quiet but, you definitely heard Jared say, 'thank god' under his breath.
You rested your arm on the shorter boy's should and he gave you the saltiest little death glare you've ever seen. Of course, you found this more funny than threatening, seeing as he's like, 2 feet tall. Okay, maybe a little taller than that, but you get the point. You ended up chuckling as he pushed your arm off of him. "I see you find humor in my suffering. Glad to see I'm not the only one." You snorted and floofed his hair like moms do for some reason and he slapped your hand. "I'm not a baby, you know."
"Yeah, but you look like one." He rolled his eyes and his death glare returned
"I'm pretty much the same height as you."
"I've still got like an inch on you, also, it doesn't change the fact that you look and act like a toddler." He groaned and tried to look upset, but you ended up making eye contact and you both started giggling like kids.
You continued bickering and laughing until we got to school, where you decided to look for Connor. Jared had insisted on going with you instead of going to his locker and you thought it would be easier not to argue with him.
It didn't take long to find Connor standing by his locker on his phone, obviously pretending to check a text.
You smiled and walked over to the tall boy.
"Hey Connor." He seemed surprised that you approached him for a second, then returned the smile. "Greetings and salutations." His eyes shifted to Jared and he frowned. "Kleinman."
"Why hello Connor!"
Connor grabbed the sleeve of your hoodie and cautiously pulled you closer to him. "Why is he here?"
"Well I-" You were cut off by Jared, who had a fake smile on his face. "You should really work on your whispering, and to answer your question, I'm here because I'm her best friend." There was extra emphasis on the words "best friend" as if he were trying to prove a point. Connor rolled his eyes and kept a tight grip on my sleeve. "Well isn't that just a cup of tea."
"Oh Connor, aren't you just a ray of sunshine. Anyway, Y/n, I hate to leave you all on your lonesome but, I need to talk to Mr. School shooter for a minute."
"Oh uh, okay?.." Before Connor could open his mouth to argue, Jared grabbed his arm and heelied away with a bright smile in his face, leaving you standing alone in the hallway in confusion.
Jared dragged a confused and pissed off Connor Murphy away to a place that was out of ear shot from you before stopping. Connor looked like he was about to punch Jared in the face, and usually he would crack a joke but, he needed to be at least somewhat serious for now. "So Kleinman, what's so important that you had to drag me here?" Jared let out a breath and crossed his arms. "Listen, Connor, I know about you and Y/n's little chat, and I'm just warning you ahead of time; If you so much as think about hurting her, I will make your life a living hell, got it?" Connor looked at Jared as if he had just grown a second head, and then started laughing. "Oh my fucking god. Jared Kleinman actually gives a shit about someone other than himself!" Jared groaned and rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah, laugh all you want, just know that nobody will believe you."
"Alright douche canoe, you can trust me when I say I would never lay a finger on Y/n. I don't see why you care so much though. Is she like, your girlfriend or something?" Jared chuckled at Connor's question. "Hell no."
"So you've got a crush on her?"
"Nope. I'm about as straight as a limp noodle, my friend."
"I'm not your friend but, okay."
"Anyway, Y/n is like my baby sister. She's naive and gives too many fucks about people, which is why I have to make sure assholes like you don't hurt her."
"Kleinman, normally I would be beating the shit out of you at this point but, I'm in a decent mood right now, so you better not push your luck."
"Wasn't planning on it. Anyway, now that we've gotten this cleared up, I must depart to my homeroom, as my people need me to supply them with the dankest of memes.""yeah, you do that. See ya short shit." Jared finger gunned him and heelied away to homeroom, returning to his usual, annoying self.
