What Now?

**Still Kid's P.O.V**

"What do you mean? Is she not well?" He looked past me to where she was. I felt disgusted.

How dare he lay his eyes on her? Even after what he did?

"I'm sorry. You must've misheard me. I said she's better off without you here. So leave." He looked at me baffled. I know I shouldn't address that way to elders. However, I had enough of his, what people call, shit to tolerate him even more.

"What did you say?" I stood straighter and tried to block any view he could have of her.

"You heard me. Leave. No one needs someone as disgusting as you."

He looked at me. His baffled look turned into disappointment and hurt. "Why are you treating me like I'm the enemy?"

He makes me laugh. How dare he say that out loud? How disgusting.

"I don't mean to disappoint or to disrespect. However, it seems very unlike you do not know your own actions and the impact it had on other people." He moved his gaze back towards her, a look of disappointment and sorrow.

He's starting to tick me off.

"Professor Stien," I stood back as Liz moved in front of me and Coraline, as if in a protective stance. His gaze changed and focused his attention towards her. "If I may, I believe visiting hours are cut shot today. We were just starting to head out when you burst in here. It would be better if we all left so as to ensure Coraline's recovery."

Liz. She took me by surprise. Never have a seen such an educated and protective side of her.

Stien's gaze fell down to the ground as he straightened up. He still seemed confused out of his mind but he knew where to go to get it back. "Yes," his gaze still focused on the ground. "Yes, of course. How silly of me. I'll head out. Good day."

I took Liz's side, forming a sort of protective wall. Just as he said he made his way out of the room. There was a short pause, almost in hesitation, before the sound of heavy footsteps proceeded down the hall.

I didn't notice how tense I was until my shoulders released and my hands unfolded.

"Well," there was still some silence. "That was something." I looked up at Liz. "Thank you. If you hadn't reacted sooner I would've blown." I gave a sigh of relief.

Suddenly, the sound of a death defining gasp and heavy breathing brought us all to alert. I quickly turned around to find Coraline sitting up, tears falling down her cheeks in heavy amounts, her pale hands gripping her throat, and her forehead drenched in sweat.

Liz was the first to react. She quickly made her way towards the side of her bed to try and comfort her.

"Coraline! Everything is alright! Everything is okay! You're safe!" Liz pulled her into a protective embrace, gripping her. Afraid that if she were to ever let go Coraline might fall apart. Patty went and followed her older sisters movements and gripped her waist.

To which Coraline gave a chilling, glass shattering scream. "NO! NO! NOT ME! NOT ME! STOP! STOP IT HURTS! JUST KILL ME ALREADY!"

"Coraline!!"

I walked backward until I hit the wall and fell back.  I gripped my hair in frustration and confusion. I'm going insane because of this.

First the death of Maka, then Stien's crazy madness, now Coraline? What else is going to fall apart? What else will just break and never get back up?

Why can't this pain just end?

I made an effort to cover my ears from all noise. I'm desperately trying to hold on to sanity. I need air!

I burst out of the room and did what my legs were burning ever since this damned mission.

I ran.

***Meanwhile, in Lord Death's Room***

(3rd Person):

As usual, Lord Death sits down to drink his sixth cup of tea today. His entire body would freeze up as chills slithered through him. Lord Death shivered as he remembered the last time he froze this badly.

He was able to take another sip when he realized how dangerous this might be. The last time he felt such a paralyzing chill was when he was around Kid's age facing off what could have been his last mission.

He brushed the coincidence off. He is death. Honestly, why should he worry?

His previous thoughts soon vanished as he was paralyzed in an iron grip. He soon realized how serious this issue was when the sound of a teacup breaking and liquid spilling rang out through the room.

"Lord Death? Are you okay?" Asked Spirit has he turned to see the mess caused by a dead still Lord Death.

Lord Death's heart went to a halting stop when he recognized the freezing temperatures in the room. It felt like his veins froze in place, the blood turning ice cold and frigid stone. He's vision became crystallized as black icy chill like ropes wrapped around his chest and around his neck.

He had to remind himself to take a couple of deep breaths. It was so dark. The way the chilling ropes wrapped tightly around him. So dangerously mysterious, yet there was a sense of familiarity with the darkness.

He has felt this before. How could he not remember? For death's sake! He's Lord Death! How could he not remember the pain, anxiety, and panicky feeling of fear?

"Hey! Lord Death!"

Lord Death was pulled out of his trance as a pale white hand abruptly spun him around. He was face to face with his death scythe. Spirit looked worried and for once a bit of his old self-shined through all of the sorrow and pain.

"Are you sure you're okay? You gave me a heck of a fright. I've been calling your name and...you've just stood there."

With what little strength he had in himself, he responded. "I'm alright." His shoulders relaxed as the ropes melted away, releasing him from a terrifying memory. "How about you? How have you been holding up?"

Having changed the subject, Spirit seemed to deflate and return back to the empty shell he once was. He sighed as he turned back to the mirror he was staring into.

"If I'm being honest, " he paused as he struggled to find the words to explain himself. "I have no idea. I'm not sure what to do anymore. Or if what I'm doing right now is enough to compensate for everything gone," he paused again as he tried swallowing the tears threatening to spill. "wrong. So terribly wrong."

Having no strength or courage, Spirit let himself fall as he was finally able to release all of his pain, frustration, sorrow, and total outrage in the form of childlike screams and tears.

Seeing this, Lord Death did all he could and held a crippling Spirit close to him. For all he knew, this was just the beginning of all this madness. It didn't take him long to realize the possibility that this could have all be just a childish game to someone more demonic than the devil himself.

The only question remains: what now?
