                                                The Reunion

Yup, here I am standing in front of the full-length mirror that hangs on the back of my door, holding up one dress after another, quickly tossing it aside when it's just not the right outfit for a night out with my old friends from high school. I need something that screams successful, yet sexy writer. Let's not lie to ourselves, we all have this need to look our best when going to reunions and sometimes go overboard to prove that our lives are perfect when the truth is we are falling apart. That's where I'm at right now.

I spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning out my car and unpacking my clothes, so I would have everything that I need at my disposal when getting ready to go out tonight, and now here I stand with perfect hair and makeup and nothing to go with it.

I flop down on the bed, still wearing only my bra and underwear, wishing I had the perfect outfit. If I were in Chicago, I'd just run to the mall and be ready in fifteen minutes, and that my friends, is why I'm living with my parents again.

I scan the room, looking over the clothes that lay all over my floor, when I spot the outfit that I wore to my first book signing. I pick it up and put it on, not caring anymore if it was the best one out of the bunch. The backwoods country folk that live in this town won't care what I'm wearing, in fact, anything that I decide to wear will probably be too formal for the tiny bar on the bluff.

I stand in the mirror admiring my reflection, Yup, this skirt suit definitely screams successful yet sexy writer, which is why I chose it for my first book signing. It's slick black pencil skirt with a little flare at the bottom that hangs a little lower in the back than it does in the front, where it hits me at the knees.

I wear a red silk tank underneath the fitted black suit jacket that matches the skirt and I top off the outfit with a pair of black heals, making me look not only sexy due to the form fitting skirt and jacket that accentuates my curves in all the right places, but it's also business attire, making me look successful, which we all know to be a lie.

I climb into my little beetle, struggling with the thought of letting the top down, nope I will not let my hair get ruined. Not after spending two hours making sure every stand was perfectly in place. I need to look perfect in every way. I need to act as if my life is perfect. I want everyone to think that I'm back home for vacation, not because my bank account is empty and it's either this or living on the streets under a bridge, fighting with the rats over a piece of bread that I found in the trash, hmm, now that might be a good story.

I pull into the parking lot at the bluff and am surprised to see how full it is, of course, what else is there to do on the island once the sun goes down? I step out of my car, trying not to turn my ankle in the rocks that cover the parking lot and carefully walk to the entrance of the bar.

The minute I open the door, I'm assaulted by loud music, boisterous conversations of those trying to talk over the music and the scent of stale beer. I was never old enough to come to this bar when I lived here before, but that didn't mean we didn't try, always getting kicked out before we even got close enough to the bar to order a beer.

I remember when we were sixteen and tried to sneak into this bar.

"Don't worry about it Bash, you're such a cry baby," I tease as we sneak in through the back door of the bar, hoping that this time we won't get caught before we can at least drink one beer.

"We always get caught Trina," Bash argues while we stand in a darkened corner not far from the restrooms.

"You didn't have to come," Alex growls at him, gaining Delilah's attention.
