Chapter Twelve

Herobrine's P.O.V.

"We're outnumbered," Bailee whispers in a shaky voice.

"Really? I didn't notice," Jason whispers back sarcastically.

"This is no time for jokes, Jason!" Lila whispers angrily.

"Okay," Ryan says. "Nobody shoot until they start this. If we start this war, we're dead meat."

She then turns to me. "If I don't make it-"

I cover her mouth with my hand. "Don't say that."

She removes my hand. "Okay, well if I don't, remember that I love you."

I kiss her forehead. "I love you too."

"Get ready for this fight," she says, turning back to the enemies.

I raise my sword, ready to strike. Jason and Lila do the same. Bailee and Ryan load their bows and aim them at the enemies. Any moment now, someone would shoot or strike and we'd get loose.

The sun was just beginning to rise. Suddenly an arrow whizzes past me. And then, everything went bad.

Ryan takes out two hybrids and Bailee takes out another. I strike another two while Lila and Jason go after Notch. Grief fills my chest after I realize I'm fighting my own brothers to the death. But I'm doing this for my friends, for Ryan, for me. I take out another three warriors until the number drops. I look over to see Bailee shoot an enemy and then relax a bit. And then it happens.

Another hybrid runs up behind her and stabs her. Right in the back.

"No!" I scream.

She collapses, yelling in pain. It eventually fades into a moan. Ryan is immediately at her side.

"Bailee, no! Please, don't leave me like this! Please!" Her eyes fill with tears and they flow freely down her face. My heart breaks to see her like this.

"You... You can do it without me.... Use your powers..." she says slightly.

"Okay. I will! I promise! I'll do it for you."

Her eyes close slowly. Ryan's sobbing now.

"Bailee..." she wails.

Bailee's chest rises and falls slowly until it eventually stops. I feel myself fill with sadness. I know how it is to lose someone close to you. I then snap back to reality and continue fighting. Ryan picks up Bailee's lifeless body and carries it away.

The battle continues. We only lost one warrior while the other army loses all except Notch and Steve. They both smile evilly. "We may be outnumbered, but we'll take you out the same way we got rid of your little friend."

Suddenly Lila infuriates. She sends a blue water stream straight at them. It slams into Notch. He shakes it off. "Weak," he says, still smiling.

Jason yanks Lila to his side. "What are you doing?!"

"Bailee said to use our powers. We.. We lost our land source. We have to use them now!"

I lean in. "Actually, I'm part land, remember?"

Lila smiles. "Then use the powers, friends!"

I send a fireball towards Steve. It hits his sword and leaves a small burn. Jason moves a few rocks around and sends them to Notch. One hits Notch in the head, another nails Steve's arm. The rest helplessly fall to the ground. Lila sends more water streams towards them. Somehow they survive our blows, barely seeming hurt. Steve runs off for a moment. Notch turns to me. "Just you and me, brother."

"Why are you doing this?" I ask. We both have our swords in our hands, ready to strike in case this got ugly.

"Revenge, sweet revenge." Notch smiles with a cruel expression.

"For what?! I didn't do anything!"

"Really? You call killing Mom and Dad 'not doing anything'?!"

Everyone freezes, even me. "What?"

Lila grabs my shoulders. "You killed your parents?"

"No, I didn't! I don't know what he's talking about!"

"If you didn't do it then who did?!" Notch yells.

"Me." I turn around to face the one and only Steve.

"You... You killed Mom and Dad?" I ask.

"Indeed I did." He grabs his sword and starts to play with the tip of it.

"But.. Why?"

"Because. I wanted to lead you all. I wanted to be the leader. And leaders must have a sad past, to be a legend."

"Who says legends need to have a sad past? Look at me. I have a perfect past," Jason interrupts.

Steve slaps him. "Shut your damn mouth, fool!"

Notch saddens. "So... You killed Mom and Dad because you wanted to be a legend?"

"Exactly."

Notch places his hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry brother," he says to Steve. "But I think I'm siding with this army now."

Steve looks furious. "So be it!"

Ryan then walks to us. "I.. I buried Bailee by the house."

Steve snatches her by the shoulder blade. He then holds up his sparkling sword to her neck. "Anyone of you moves and your pretty little friend her dies!"

We all freeze in our positions. My heart drops when I see her face. It's full of sadness, fear and worry. Steve removes the sword slowly. "I think... I think I'll keep her."

With that, he drags her away.
