Chapter Nineteen

I walk back home alone, because everyone else went to go pack. We were going to the lake for a week, and I was super excited. I walk in the front door to see my grandparents at the kitchen table.

"Ryan, you've been gone for so long! Why do you keep leaving?" my grandma says, pulling me into a hug.

"Sorry. It's just... Having Herobrine around just causes a lot of trouble that I don't want you guys involved in. I don't want you to get hurt," I reply.

"Why are you hanging around that boy anyway?" my grandpa asks.

"Because I love him."

Grandpa laughs. "You're so stubborn."

I sit down at the table with them. "Also Herobrine's really stupid brother took those flame powers out of me. He took everyone's powers, even Herobrine's."

"Sorry to hear that."

"It's alright, it's better for everyone now."

My grandma puts her hand on my shoulder. "So, what's new?"

"I was gonna ask if I could go to a private lake vacation for a week with my friends actually...?" I say.

Grandpa frowns. "You're leaving us again?"

I sigh. "I'm sorry. I guess we're all just cluttered up and we need some time to catch up and get back on track."

"I don't know what you're talking about but I'm gonna accept it anyway," my grandma says.

We all laugh. My grandparents agree to let me go and I happily run up to my room to pack. In a half hour, I lug a suitcase down the stairs, along with my ticket taped to it. "All ready," I say.

My grandma hugs me. "I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too."

Grandpa hugs me as well. "Bringing your hoodie?"

"Yup." I hold it up. It's stitched up on the side. Why? Because in the battle, someone's sword barely missed me and cut a hole in my hoodie. My grandma stitched it back up though, and I'm happy.

"So you'll remember me," my grandpa says.

"Always will."

There's a knock on the door, and my grandma opens it. It's all my friends, each with a stuffed bag or suitcase. "Ready?" Lila says.

"I always am," I reply.

I say one last goodbye before we all walk to the train station. We lift the bags onto the little shelves and sit down: Herobrine and I together, Jason and Lila together, and Caden and Notch together. Those two have become real good friends. I rest my head on Herobrine's shoulder as the train leaves the station. Jason and Lila begin to sing a song together and Caden and Notch are both sleeping.

"Excited?" Herobrine whispers to me.

"Of course. Can't wait to spend a week in a beautiful place with a beautiful guy," I whisper back.

"You're too sweet."

"And you're too awesome."

Eventually I fall asleep with Herobrine's arm around me. I'm pretty sure he fell asleep too. It was at least three hours later when I was woken up by a huge bump. I wake up slowly and look around to see everyone else just waking up. Then I gaze out the window to discover we are at the lake. I wake Herobrine up and hop out of the seat. He helps me get our bags down, along with everyone else. We get off the train and look around.

It's so beautiful! There are palm trees swaying in the wind, and huge sand dunes tower above. There are little cabins along the shore of the lake, and the beaches are amazing. And the water. It sparkles in the sunlight and it's so clear. There are boats and jet skis scattered in the lake and many people swimming. There's even a water park on the shore with a huge slide that leads to the water. I look up at Herobrine and smile.

"Paradise," he says.

"I couldn't agree more," I reply.

"Come on guys!" Notch calls out. "Let's go find our cabin."

We walk along the shore until we reach a decent sized cabin and we pile inside. It's amazing. There's a full kitchen and living room, complete with huge windows and a tv. There are four bedrooms, each one with a double bed, a big closet, and a dresser. There's a back door that leads to a large wooden deck that steps out onto the beach. Lila grabs my hand. "You picked this?"

"Yeah, me and Herobrine," I reply.

"I should go on vacations with you guys all the time!"

We both laugh. The guys bring in the bags and we happily unpack, chatting away. I could already tell that this was going to be an amazing week. Notch and Caden were both having their own rooms, Jason and Lila in another, and Herobrine and I in the last one. I hang up all my shirts and yes, my hoodie, in the closet while Herobrine wanders out into the kitchen. Jason and Lila are having a very loud conversation, Caden is exploring the beach, and I think Notch was just laying on his bed. I walk in there to find him sprawled in the middle.

"I can see you're liking this already," I say.

"Like it? I love it!" he exclaims.

"Too bad it's only a week."

"We'll make the best of it."

"Good."

I walk into the living room and observe. There are two large couches and a few frames on the wall. There's a paper about rules, a framed certificate, and a photo of I think the staff members on the beach. There's also a hook with a few extra keys to the cabin. I sit on one of the couches and rest for just a moment, wondering what we would do today. It was already five o' clock, so we'd probably just unpack and explore today.

Later, we had a bonfire down at the beach. Lila and I were night swimming in the lake while the guys were telling stories around the fire. The water was really shallow but warm, so I just sat in it. Lila pops up from underwater and scares me.

"You look bored," she says.

"Not bored, just tired," I reply.

"I think we all are, but tonight we'll have a good rest and tomorrow the fun will begin."

"You do realize you're still wearing your glasses, right?" I pull them off.

"Oh, aw, damn it!"

She jumps up and runs to Jason. She says something and puts them in his lap and then comes back to me; I'm laughing. "You ma'am, just made my day," I say between laughs.

"I'm very forgetful," Lila says.

"I can see that."

Lila swims around a little more until she gets tired. "Girl I can't keep my eyes open. I gotta get to sleep," she says.

"Same here." I get out of the water.

My towel is around Herobrine's shoulders. I pull it off and wrap it around me. "Hey, I'm going to bed, okay?" I say.

"Alright, I think I am too," he replies, and everyone else agrees.

They dose the fire with a bucket of water and head back up to the cabin. I change quickly and climb into bed, where I'm almost asleep. I close my eyes. I hear Herobrine come in, change, and get in bed next to me.

"Goodnight," he whispers.

"Goodnight," I say before completely dozing off.
