Beep. Beep. Beep.
I rolled over and groaned. It was my first day back at school and I was absolutely dreading it.
I sat up in my bed and rubbed my eyes before getting up and heading over to my bathroom. I brushed my teeth and washed my face before applying some makeup and lipgloss. Then, I straightened my hair before heading out to find an outfit.
I decided on a pastel yellow top with my white skirt and silver sandals. I walked over to my mirror to look at myself. I looked better than I ever did when I was dating Tyler, I felt more confident and more attractive, but deep down, I was still extremely nervous. I took a deep breath.
"You got this, it's all going to be okay," I said to myself before grabbing my phone and backpack and headed down the stairs to the kitchen.
"Hi Honey, are you ready for your first day back?" My mom asked. I could tell that she was worried for me and I felt guilty for making her so worried.
"I guess so, I can't hide forever," I said as I sat down at the kitchen table. I quickly ate my breakfast and grabbed a smoothie to go. I was about to get into my car when my brother stopped me.
"I'm driving you today," Noah said as he walked over to his black Jeep Wrangler.
"Okay," I said before walking over to his car. I got into the passenger seat and the door opened, revealing Avery, who climbed into the back seat.
Noah pulled out of the driveway and we headed off to school. I was starting to get increasingly nervous as we got closer and closer to the high school.
"Noah, pass me the aux. I'm going to play a song to calm Lana down," Avery said. Noah passed her the aux cord and Avery plugged in her phone.
At first, I wasn't sure what song she could be playing to help me feel better until I started hearing a familiar beat. Suddenly, "Mr. Brightside" was blasting from the speakers and I couldn't help but smile as we all sung along.
"Coming out of my cage, and I've been doing just fine," I sang.
"Gotta gotta be fine, because I want it all," Noah sang.
When it got to the chorus, Noah's car lined up behind cars waiting to pull into the school parking lot. I felt more relaxed as the three of us sang the chorus. By the time Noah had found a spot, the song had ended and we were getting out of the car.
The moment I got out of the car, I could feel people's eyes on me. My brother and sister got out and walked on either side of me as we headed towards the building.
"I'll see you guys later," Avery said. "Text me if you need anything, Lana." She squeezed my arm lightly before heading off to meet her friends.
Noah walked me into the building and past the staring eyes as we headed to my locker. When we got to my locker, Elle was standing there waiting for me, causing me to smile.
"Lana, you look so good!" Elle exclaimed, causing me to smile even wider. I was grateful for the confidence boost, I'd definitely need it if I was going to get through today.
I looked over Elle's shoulder and my breath hitched. Suddenly, I began to frown before turning back to face my locker, remembering exactly why I didn't want to go to school today. Elle and Noah noticed the sudden change in my mood and looked over Elle's shoulder to see Tyler and Paige making out against the locker.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Noah exclaimed, pissed off beyond belief.
"Noah, it's not worth it," I said quietly. I felt like I couldn't breathe but I had to stay strong. I closed my locker and turned to them. "I'll see you guys after class."
"Okay, but if you need anything, you call me, okay? I'll come get you and we'll leave the minute something happens," Noah said, causing a small smile to form on my face.
I waved goodbye to them before heading off to my first period class, which was English. I still had a few minutes before the first bell but I wanted to get to my class early to avoid seeing anyone else in the halls.
I walked in and sat in the third row by the window. I took out my notebook before sitting there on my phone as more people started to come in.
Once the bell rang, the rest of the class came in and sat down. I could feel people staring at me but I tried to ignore it by going on my phone. I knew that we wouldn't be doing anything important right away so I kept myself distracted until I heard my teacher's voice.
"Good morning class, my name is Mr. Carmichael," he stated. "It seems that we have a new student in our class this morning. Introduce yourself, sir."
I didn't even bother to look up until I heard a familiar voice.
"Hi, I'm Dean Anderson," Dean said with a small smile. I looked up, completely shocked and our eyes met, causing me to smile widely.
"Ok, Mr. Anderson, please find a seat. As for the rest of the class, please take out your notebooks to take notes."
Dean walked from the front of the class and through the isles to sit next to me, which of course caused more people to stare at me but in the moment, I didn't care.
"I didn't know you were going to my school," I whispered to Dean. He looked at me and smiled.
"I just transferred."
